Question about doctor's experience

Recommended Posts

I went to the seminar last night and the surgeon stated he has performed about 100 of these procedures since 2005. However, he is a leader in laproscopic surgery and was the first in Tallahassee to do it.

Is this enough experience do you think?

It was enough for 100 other people. :)

It is enough if you feel comfortable with him. My Dr at the time had only done 30 bands.

Someone tried to talk me out of using him and going to someone who had done much more. I am so glad I went with my gut and stayed with him.

I'm actually a little shocked by the shallowness of my answer:

If the procedure was fully insured, I'd probably take the chance, as everyone started out somewhere.

However, since I am a self-pay, I would not have the surgery done by this doctor, as I'd need a longer track-record before putting down my money.

Sad, but true that money would be the highest priority, every thing else being equal. Oc course, a doctor with one procedure under his belt could be better than one with 2000 too.

Thanks everyone! I actually felt really comfortable with him and the nurse that was at last night's seminar. I've made my appointment and will now count down the days!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
