Are there any other newbies on Clear & Full Liquids

Recommended Posts

I haven't received my pre-surgery diet yet (I go for that on 2/18).

I do have a sheet that they gave me in a packet when I attended a lap band class at the hospital.

It says, "ten days prior to surgery, you will begin a high Protein liquid diet. This is your opportunity to try a variety of high Protein liquid supplements which will become an important part of your diet after surgery. If you feel you must eat during this time, chicken or fish is allowed, as long as it is not breaded or fried. After 5 weeks (after the surgery), you will begin a regular diet with soft foods. New foods should be introduced slowly and in small amounts to make sure you tolerate them."

I know when I go in on 2/18 that I receive a "huge notebook" with strict eating instructions for pre-surgery and post-surgery. I think I do the liquid diet 10 days before the surgery in order to shrink my liver. After the surgery, I have heard that I continue on the liquid diet for 4 weeks. After 4 weeks, I go in for my first fill. I have to do the liquid diet after I have the fill for two more days. The, I progress to pureed food for a while (I'm not sure how long) and then to soft food (I'm not sure how long...forever??).

The paper said everytime I have a fill I have to do the liquid diet for two days. I can't drink carbinated beverages (goodbye my wonderul diet soft drinks!!), and I can NEVER EVER eat anything with coconut in it ever again. Plus, no gum. They are afraid of someone swallowing it, and then they have to take it out of our little stomach pouch!! =0

Hello everyone.

I am on my 3rd day pre op diet. I am amazed that I am doing so well. I thought for sure I would have gone crazy by now. But I am sticking with it.

I will be banded Next Wednesday 1/23/08.

I am soooo excited and scared!

Good Luck to everyone!

BTW my dh and I ventured out to O'Charley's last night so I could get some potato Soup. I know, I know its probably loaded with calories, but I only had about 8 tablespoons and was full. I didn't eat any of the bacon or any of the chunks (I'm in full liquids right now). It was AWESOME!!!

BTW I'm not trying to rub it in or anything just trying to help with ideas:smile:

I was banded on the 9th and am on a full liquid diet until Jan 23rd. Today I had:

8 oz. Protein shake made with 1% milk (I can drink about 6 oz. at a time slowly - I finished the last 2 ounces about 1/2 hour later)

4 oz. light fat free peach yogurt

4 oz. blended Soup

Minute Maid Light fruit drink.

Usually I eat about 4 oz. of something and feel satisfied. I can't say I feel full - I haven't felt the same kind of fullness as I used to feel before the band - it's different. I ate almost 6 oz. of yogurt the other day and knew after the last bite that I should have stopped one bite earlier. I just felt kind of bad in an undefinable way. So, I just don't try to eat any more than 5 oz of anything other than a clear liquid.

Whoa...wait a minute...somebody posted up there about never being able to have coconut ever again? WTH? Nobody has ever told me this. In fact, my doc has never given me one dietary restriction...ever. He's a teaching physician for the band around the world. His motto is "try it. if it doesn't work for you, you'll know it". What the heck is someone saying ya can't have coconut for? That's just bizarre.

hi, i am 10 days post op and I only lost 5 lbs at time I saw my surgeon 7 days later....I have to say I am very disappointed. I am still in the liquid stage, but very hungry and have snuck a bite here and there, but otherwise have stayed on program. My doc says everyone is different and that although my BMI was 38, he has seen heavier people lose much more weight than me. he said that 5 lbs is great and to keep up the good work.:)

I'm on day 2 of my 2 week post op diet of full fluids. I had about 4oz (I had to convert it from mls) of V8 juice, 8oz Optifast shake, 4oz of chicken Soup and Water.< /p>

I'm supposed to drink 2 litres (67 oz) of Fluid per day, which I am finding very difficult. I still have that bloated gas feeling, so I'm so not hungry!

Just hang in there yelsnia. It gets better and for me the pounds melted away during liquids. Not so much now that I'm on full liquids, but its understandable.

Cream of wheat, pudding and cottage cheese are "Purees," not full liquids. Full liquids, versus Clear Liquids, include reduced calorie or sugar free drinks such as Alba, Instant Breakfast, Protein Shakes, Skim Milk, Hot Cocoa, and strained cream Soups.

But some doctors don't seem to really focus much on diets. If you read postings here, you will see patients who fast ONE night and eat full food the day after surgery or within a short time.

I think the UCSD medical center program is conservatively cautious. My surgeon was one of the first to do the procedure I chose him because I respect his experience. I will stay on the 2-week pre-op, post op clear liquid (day 1-5), full liquid (day 5-14) puree (week 3 & 4)and soft food (Week 5 & 6) stages as advised by the nutritionist.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
