Are there any other newbies on Clear & Full Liquids

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone and let me start by thanking everyone for their posts. This site is what gave me the courage to opt for the banding.

I have read so many posts regarding the liquid stage of the diet but have yet to find anyone who is on a Clear and Full liquid diet like the one my doctor has me on. I do understand all the individual preferences the doctors follow but I am really looking for an ally :) I guess you could say. I started a Clear & Full Liquid Diet 2 days prior to surgery. I was banded January 9, 2008 at 7:30am and was home by 2:00pm and that included a 45 minute commute! Below is a sample of my diet:

Breakfast - 2 oz cream of wheat - 2 oz sugar-free blended yogurt -

2 oz diluted juice - 2 oz skim milk with no sugar-added Carnation Instant Breakfast

lunch - 3 oz strained low fat cream Soup - 3 oz sugar-free Gelatin -

2 oz skim milk - 1 scoop Protein Powder

dinner - 2 oz strained cream soup (does not say low fat) - 2 oz sugar-free blended yogurt - 2 oz sugar-free gelatin - 1 scoop Protein powder

No Caffeine or Carbonated beverages

Drink at least 64oz of Fluid per day to prevent dehydration

Since the diet consists of 24 oz of fluids above; I must get in 40 oz throughout the day by aiming for 1/2 cup of liquids every 30 minutes during waking hours.

Is there anyone out there whose diet is remotely close to mine? I almost forgot, maybe the reason he has me on this diet is because he does not believe in the pureed Stage and skips directly to the Soft food Stage.

Yes - I was banded 01/04 and my best friend was also banded back in November. Our doc requires 2 weeks of clear & full liquids, followed by 1 week of puree's and then 1 week of softs. So I'm still in the clear & full liquid stage. I did have mashed potatoes once cuz I was very, very hungry (to the point of stomach growling) but I just went very slow and only had about 3/4 cup.

Also, our doc does not consider Cream of Wheat to be a full liquid. I think that is technically a puree...so you are lucky! I have my 2 week post-op appt. on the 16th (Wed.) so I'm going to see if I get the go-ahead to begin purees and/or soft foods.

I'm really very hungry and I would just love to chew something. I miss chewing. I can't believe you've already lost 13 pounds after only 3 days post-op?!?? What the heck are you doing? I've lost 13 and I'm 10 days post-op and I'm on the same diet as you almost. :welldoneclap:

I too was banded on the 9th. I sure wish I had your diet. Mine consists of 2 oz of Protein Shake every hour on the hour. And then 1 oz of clear liquid--broth, water-jello--every 15 min, while awake. It's pretty hard. But it will bw worth it.

Hi MamaJava and LDNurse,

Nice to meet someone on the same diet and someone banded the same day. I am not hungry at all. I can barely get a total of 5 oz of the diet down. I have been getting the Protein down and living on sugarless popsicles, 2 to 3 a day. I was so lightheaded last night that I figured I was losing too fast (if there is such a thing LOL) so I weighed myself this morning and I was down 12 lbs! The two days I was on clear & full liquids I lost 1.5 lbs. It should slow down now though because I am really forcing myself to eat the whole 8 oz of food per meal. It took be over an hour and I still fell short but getting there.

I agree LD, will definitely be worth it.

Good luck at your appt. MamaJava.

I haven't been hungry, but today, I'd like to have an apple. I settled for 1 oz of apple juice instead. I've been a little discouraged because I had gained 4 lbs at the hospital. Figured out it was all of the IV fluids. But still...it's starting to come off a little now though. But 12 lbs!!!!That's great!!!!Good job!!!! It makes it all worth it.

I had my surgery on the 11th, and I'm really sick of slim-fast every morning and chicken broth for lunch and dinner. So today I decided to get Whon-Ton Soup. It's clear broth, just don't eat the noddles. So, I guess I'm finding ways to have different things. I'm on a one week liquid, one week, thicker liquids, 1 week soft, and then back to whatever I feel like having. It's really hard, but I'm looking forward to the soft foods stage.

I had surgery 12/31 and I am still on the liquid diet. Tonight is the first night that I am going crazy. My family must ate pizza, and I wanted a piece so bad! I didn't eat one because I can't but I sure wanted to. I get to move up to puree' foods in the AM, and I am a little excited!! I went to the Doctor on 1/9/08, 9 days post op and had lost 14.5 pounds so I am obviously doing what I am suppose to. I just wanted to say, I REALLY WANTED THAT PIZZA!!!! But I am sooo PROUD of ME!!

I was banded on Christmas eve, but also had a huge hiatal hernia repaired. My surgeon always is on the side of caution, and I think because of the hernia needing to repair (I had a ton of extra stitches and also had to have some work on stomach) that I did not get to go from full liquids to pureed food until Jan. 10. I now have to have pureed food for 2 weeks, and then I can move forward.

I have had times where I was "starving" (not really-but my stomach was non stop growling!) I added more protien and that helped tremendously!

It is nice to see others are walking this path as well!

I'm on full liquids now. Here's what I've had today

4 oz Peach soy baby yogurt- Breakfast

fat free sugar free chocolate pudding cup-snack

Optima Slim Fast shake (about 1/2's all I could stomach)- lunch

full fat full sugar butterscotch pudding cup-snack

This part is so much better for me than the broth. If I never have to have any broth for the rest of my life, I will be okay!!

I thought I was going to die. I was absolutely starving, in fact I woke up from surgery hungry.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
