How did you do on Pre-op diet?

Recommended Posts

I was on a full liquid diet for 7 days, then Clear Liquids the day before surgery.

I stuck to it religiously, didn't slip even once. I lost about 6 or 7 pounds.

It sucked, but I'm self-pay and I'm terrified of screwing up somehow, so I'm following doctors' orders absolutely. If I mess this up, there's no insurance to bail me out. I'm now 2 days post-surgery and on Clear Liquids until tomorrow. Then I can go back to full liquids.< /p>

How many days was your pre-op diet?

Only liquids? or some solids too?

Did you stick to it?

If not, what were the results? What did your Dr say? or did s/he know?

I was on my Pre-Op diet for 2 weeks.

I was on Medifast - they have eggs, Soups and shakes..etc..

Yes, I stuck to it....

I lost 20lbs...

I was so mad, day of surgery, they didn't even bother to weigh me or even ask if I stuck to the diet...I had done so well.. dang it.

My pre-op diet was in 2 phases:

1) minimum 4 weeks (I did it for 5) Liver Shrinkage Diet - 1200 cal/day, low-sodium, low-fat

2) 3 days clear liquids

I lost 19.5 lbs in the first phase but gained back 2 lbs on the second phase, I think because I was drinking so much high-sodium bouillon.

Day 2 of pre-op and alls well.

A little hungry but lunch is a few minutes.

My pre-op is only 60-100 grams proteing and 30 carbs.

I just keep singing a little diddy in my head " I'm shrinking my liver" over and over and over.

I am on my 2nd day of a 2 week pre-op with Optifast. I am also self pay and I do not want to do anything to interfer with my surgery. I am sticking with what I've been told to do. I am doing better today than I did yesterday.

Surgery Date 1-24-08

I did 5 days of pre-op - clear low or no-calorie liquids. I called the office when I started getting a headache and they told me to eat a few crackers or add a few fine egg noodles to my chicken Soup. During that time I lost 15lbs. I was self pay too so I did not want to mess up anything.

Good luck to you the pre-op is worth it. Not only does it shrink your liver but it detoxes you, from carbs and caffiene.

Yes, I was on a low carb liquid diet for nine days before surgery (was supposed to be seventeen days, but lucky me--they moved my surgery up!).

And yes, I stuck to it faithfully--I didn't want ANYTHING to disrupt my surgery or cause a delay (I was so proud of me because it was hard~!)

I began my liquid diet on Tues(today is day 3) and all I can think about this afternoon is food! It hasn't helped that I work 10 hours a day and people all around me are eating the whole time we are at work, but my stomach just feels so hungry! And why wouldn't it? I am only allowed chicken or beef broth, sugar free Jello, and Water or diet soda. I want so bad to just chew something, so I got some sugar free popsicles and ate about 5 before stopping! Will this get any better? I am not having surgery until next Thurs!

Surgery went fine, only problems

have been nagging headache and

low-grade fever. I'm taking liquid

Tylenol and on Clear liquids.

I cooked broccoli and cabbage in my

broth. I had to have something to crunch

on. My doctor said my liver was fine.

If I "cheated" on the pre-op diet it was

on something very low-carb.

Warmest regards, Joanna

after the 4 day post op, my doc's directives went out the window..I dont know why, since last time I checked, I dont have a medical degree. i am supposed to be still be on liquids and I have placed myself on mushies and bad thing is, i have NO restriction, I can drink the entire shake, sure I am full and that is all, but I have had chicken noodle Soup minus the noodles with a few saltines and felt fine...I am scared that there is no restriction. doc says everyone is different and some of us have no restriction....but why am I self sabotaging again?> everyday I tell myself that this day will be different and everyday, I cheat at least one meal, I have 2 shakes and then one meal I eat food, only a little bit of food, but still i am eating food! please help me from myself!

Was on full liquids, with broth, Protein Shakes, 2 cups veggies a day, Jello and ice pops for 2 weeks prior to surgery. It was tough days 5-7 but after that it got easier for some reason. I lost 24 pounds in the pre surgery phase.

I'm on liquids right now. broth, sugar free popsicles, Optifast drinks, crystal light and gatorade. It sucks big time. I'm on day 4 and hating it. I've lost about 5 lbs so far, but the taste in my mouth is bad!! Doing gum to try and cut it. I have to do 2 weeks of this now and then for another week after... looking forward to the mush stage. I'm worried about all of this salt intake, yuck. I got the lower sodium broth, but it tastes a little worse than the regular. Good luck... I'm there with ya.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
