Helicobacter Pylori

Recommended Posts

I found out that I have this before surgery. Did anybody else have this and get treatment for it? The Dr says the treatment is 6 weeks long. I wonder if there are a lot of side effects? Anyone know? They figured this out from a test where I drank a really sweet drink and then blew into a bag.

Hi Anya,

I am being banded next week and had a gastroscopy a few days ago. My surgeon took a sample from inside my stomach to test for it, given my history of reflux and indigestion. He said I will need antibiotics after my surgery if it comes back positive. I will let you know how I go.

I just got the results of my test today and they were positive. They are calling in a prescription for Previpac and I have to take it 14 days to clear it up.

I took the test pre-banding, they said they linked H-pylori with nausea post-op.. so if you have it, they said it's 'no big deal, people live with it a long time and some never know'. They treat it with antibiotics, not a biggie.

Don't worry :huh2:

I kinda hoped I had it, they said it can be a cause for heart burn. I was negative, so that wasn't my reason!

H. Pylori is a bacterial infection that can cause ulcers. It can be transmitted sexually so partners are usually treated with antibiotics as well as the patient. The course of antibiotics solves the problem so it's good it was diagnosed.

Before I got banded my family doc decided I should get tested and probed lol. While everything else came out okay, my doc did find that I had H.Pylori. I had to take an antibiotic and prevacid for I think a week or 2 (I can't remember it was back in '08), but once I completed the treatment, I was good to go. No biggie.

I had this and was found out during endoscopy in 7/10. My doc treated it very aggressively because sometimes the prev pac doesnt work. I took 2 different antibiotics and prevacid for 2 weeks and though I was gonna die from taking it so long. Anyway I survived. It was no biggy. Never in my life heard of it being sexually transmitted. Sorry.

I know it can live for years inside digestive track. I didnt know I had it. its one of those bugs we probably all carry and it doesnt affect you unless you have ulcers etc and I developed GERD.

Anyway you should be just fine:cool2:

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
