Ok, so... over my port incision there is coming a "string" that looks an awful lot like fishing line.... I am guessing it is whatever they used to sew my port in place... but their is a little piece sticking out... do I cut it?????

Sounds like it's just part of the suture material. It's usually the dissolvable type. I had that too. I left mine alone and when I saw the Dr they removed the pieces they could and the rest they told me would go away eventually.

I spit stitches, too. It took forever before I was able to pull the pieces out without hurting anything.

The nurse told me it was suture material and she went to cut it for me, but couldn't find it when I was there, it had closed over. A few days later that little part of the incision got pussy, and the string popped out again, so I cut it, and it's been fine ever since.

Yes you are "spitting" sutures.

Do not cut it as it is most probably "run" which means it is started and not knotted until the length of the incision is sutured.

If anything let your Dr cut it at your next visit. Their scissors will have been sterilized.

They are probably dissolvable and will go away in time. Catalyst is right, you don't want to leave any behind if you cut them, they are probably running sutures. If you are worried, contact your surgeon.

I had that. My doctor told me to leave it alone and it would dissolve

in 3 months and it did.

I had SEVERAL of these little things. The doctor cut the first one, then when I called him back and told him I had more, he said to leave them alone they would eventually fall out on their own once they dissolve inside. They did but it took about 6 - 7 weeks. Since I wasn't completely "closed up" with that suture hanging out, I refrained from getting in the pool or hot tub to avoid infection. I kept the spots very clean. One healed over and got a little pussy, like a tiny pimple, but it popped back out and went away. Don't worry. Just keep them clean.

o0o0o0o0o I am so glad I read this.... I too have one suture sticking out... I occassionally pull on it hoping that it's dissolved in there... but I will wait until my next appt. and see what he says... Thanks everyone!

A few days after surgery I removed my sutures.... alcohol, a pair of small scizzors, tweezers, and bandaids.

Beware....my largest, centered up top, incision opened up. Had to run to the drugstore for butterfly tape.

I don't think mine were the type to dissolve on their own....they were what you described as wiry and like a fishing line.

But if you want to go to the nurse, they will remove it.

Mine was wiry like a fishing line too. They dissolved in 3 months.

My daughter is a nurse and she wanted to cut them off. I asked the dr. and he said to just leave it alone and let it dissolve.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
