Lets try this again...Those who were BANDED the week of December 17th...

Recommended Posts

I didn't go to the meeting tonight. I went to the gym instead. I figured it was more beneficial than listening to the banter back and forth. :tt1:

When I went to my post-op with Dr. K. he said that he didn't want to give me a fill on the 24th because I would only be 5 weeks out, and chances were all of the appointment slots were probably filled. So, I have to tough it out until February some time. You'll have to tell me how the whole process is done, how it feels, etc.

_____________________

Trish, i will let you know how it goes on the 24th with the fill. I asked our doc if I needed to do anything in prep for it and he said "no".

I know I am going to have to go back to Clear liquids for at least a few days, then full liquids, etc.

The one thing that scares me is the thought of having a whole lot of new foods getting stuck. I have had sticking a couple of times (when I am not thinking) and it is very uncomfortable.

What do you think of the nutritionist that we have to see in the office?

I don't have much of an impression of Sheryl yet. I like her better than the person I originally saw for the pre-op requirements (not affiliated with Brathwaite/Kaczmarski). She seemed nice enough, a little preoccupied, but that could have been due to the state of disarray in the office. How did your meeting with her go?

Hi,

I am Melinda from SF, and I was banded on 12/17/07. I have lost 40lbs total (16 lbs were lost before the surgery). I got the AP band; I can still eat. I would like to know if anyone else got this new band, and how they are doing with it.

II was banded on the same day (12/17) and I've got the AP band too - so far so good. I had my first fill today and it was 3 cc's. liquid for today and soft food for 3 days. The fill was a strange experience, as I sat in the waiting room after sipping the Water and waiting my 30 minutes, I had a vague feeling of nausea. Like I wouldnt have been shocked if I did throw up, but didnt completely feel like I needed to. Never did, and the feeling went away, along with a moment of dizziness, not sure where that came from. No problem with liquids today, we'll see how the soft food goes tomorrow.

I thought Sheryl was good. Ten times better than the guy I saw in prep for the surgery. It just suprised me when I met her. I was finished with the doctor and all of a sudden they called me back from the waiting room and told me I was going to meet with her. So I sat with her and she was fine. Then she asked for $25 in cash and basically told me that I will meet with her each month and it is going to be $25 (which isn't a big deal but I really like to have insurance pay for things since my office -- which I own -- pays $20,000 a year for health insurance for me). I think I would have liked to have been told what the regimine was going to be after surgery. But, I think it will be good to meet with her. I wonder if there are going to be any other surprises.

I was at my gym Wednesday night as well.

A-band-on-me,

I'll be getting all my fills from a lady and her "assistant" that does only fills all day long, and uses the flouroscopy machine, so I was glad to know she's experienced! It's a True Results surgery center. It was so quick, they're like a well oiled machine, and it only lasted maybe 60 seconds, and I may be way over estimating it. It didnt hurt, it was more odd and slightly uncomfortable, but no real pain at all.

I hope your fill goes the same as mine did! Best of luck, and don't be worried about it. I was worried, and found there was no reason to be! I did have some slight soreness around the shot area for that day, but that could have been my jeans rubbing against the area!

Hi My name is Betty and I had the band done on 12/17/07 by Dr. Tillquest in Denver CO. Came home on the 18th. Couldn't keep ice chips down. I would foam at the mouth after sucking on a chip. Went back to the ER that night. Poor care given ended up with Bacterial pneumonia from the foam that went back into my lungs. Spent a week in the hospital. The doctor said my body rejected the band but after a week of no food or Water I could do the ice chips. So I was off to a new start. I am now eating soft food. I get my first fill on fri. 1/25/08. I think life will become more interesting then. lol... I will start water walking next week. That is the only exerice I can do. I am feeling great lost 23 lbs.

Hey Cerrin,

Looks like you are making good progress. Please let me know how your fill goes. I get mine on fri. Don't really know what to expect. I think my fill might have to been done slow since my body rejected the band. My doctor said that only 3 people have rejected the band and I was the 3rd. Lucky me. So let me know how it goes and keep up the good work.

Betty

I just had my first fill last friday, I didn't have the fluro though , nurse just numbed me up and dr. came in and did the fill all over in about 7 mins. after the numbing stuff wore off it was kind of sore for about 36 hrs but nothing I couldn't live with ,no restrictions as of yet which i was hoping for getting hungry about every 3 hrs now. Don't be scared it will be fine.

Thanks for the info. Hope mine goes as well. I am going to ask the dr. not to make mine too tight. I am afraid since my body rejected the band for the first week. It might just reject the tightening of it. Will let you know how I make out.

So can you feel tight? like all the time or just when eatting? Can you drink normal? I think the not knowing is what is freaking me out. I am getting it done. But I may have to have a Xanex before lol. not within 3 hours of it. so I may just have to time it well. lol

I don't get a fill until February 28th! I'm a little upset that I have to wait so long. I find that staying full has been getting tougher everyday...but I shall persevere! It's just frustrating because I'm not a patient person and I want this weight gone like yesterday!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
