I just read the rest of your posts.

first...let me add this REPEATED POST from two other threads...wow, seems restriction is a hot topic this past week. Hope this helps:

I got this card from Natalie at Dr. Kirshenbaum's office. I will retype it for the benefit of those who were and are where I was before my last fill:

Get into the Lap-Band Green Zone

ADD Fluid think.gif

When:

You appear to always feel hungry

You are able to eat big meals

You are 'looking for food'

SUB-OPTIMAL WEIGHT LOSS

GREEN ZONE happy.gif

The Optimal Zone and what you target for

You have early and prolonged satiety

-you feel satisfied earlier at mealtime and that fullness sticks with you for a good while.

Small meals satisfy

Satisfactory weight loss or maintenance

OPTIMAL WEIGHT LOSS

Reduce Fluid huytsao.gif

Difficulty swallowing

Reflux-Heartburn

Night Cough

Regurgitatioin

Poor Eating Behavior

SUB-OPTIMAL WEIGHTLOSS

..................................................

I hope this helps. It took me three fills to finally hit the zone. This "sweet spot" as it is known, is a lovely place to be. Mind you I have retrained myself to chew slowly, eat slowly, no liquids at meal time ( I will have the occasional room temperature drink of Water to cleanse the pallette). The band goes hand in hand with rechanging eating patterns (habits..event the bad ones) that we've developed over the years.

........................................................................

I am 48 as of Dec. 28th. I am married to my wonderfully handsome husband for 25 years this May. We have two children both grown with one still at home. We are expecting our first grandchild in July!!!

Hi all,

I'm Lisa, I'm 46, banded since September 2006. My husband is also banded so we have a built-in support system....although he gets tired of my nagging when I tell him he's snacking too much

Glad to meet everyone!

I noticed there are several who are fairly new in the Forties group. Hang in there, I promise it will get easier and more "natural" over time.

This is hubby and I before banding and also during a bike race we were in last year. So far DH has lost about 80 lbs and I've lost 60ish....and we are still losing.

Hello all! A new group, very exciting! I just wanted to snuggle in this forum and meet my fellow forty lap-banders! :)

I'm Rose, 43 years old, I've been married for 16 years to my wonderful hubby, and I have one beautiful son (he is 11 years old), and 3 furbaby kitties. I'm new (well sorta - not banded yet) and I'm getting anxious to get my lap-band! I've started this journey back in May of 2007, with all the doctor visits and pre-op tests. I would have been banded last Fall, but my lap-band surgeon moved to another city and state! :faint:Ouch! But I have a new lap-band surgeon that I'm very happy with, it just took more time and searching, but it was worth it! I have two more pre-op visits to do before I can get a surgery date . . . my new dietitian this Thursday, and the weight-loss center doctor next Monday (Jan 14th). After those are done, I'm hoping to get a surgery date, and start the pre-op diet!!!!! It's been a long haul, but I think it's all for the good, I've learned so much in these past months. Everyone has been so inspiring here, I'm hoping to lose 100 pounds like some of you! :whoo:

It probably sounds funny, but I just can't wait to add a ticker to my signature, and start it ticking down!

Glad to be here! I'm both nervous and excited about the surgery . . . just tapping my toes waiting to get my new life started.

I wish everyone a very Happy & Healthy New Year!

Lisa99, I just wanted to say I really like your pictures! You and your husband are a lovely couple, and it sounds like you are doing great! I envy you that you have someone to share your journey like that . . . my husband is one of those men who's body has never seen a fat cell. Arrggg! He can eat anything, and he's 6 feet tall and 165 pounds. At age 44, he still has some of his college sweatshirts he uses for yardwork! Life's just not fair, yanno????? LOL I've always had to battle my weight. But my hubby is sweet and he's being very supportive - he says whatever decision I make, he'll support me all the way. I really can't complain, I'm blessed to be with him!

Your mountain biking looks great . . . I used to do so much of that. I think once I'm recovered from my surgery, hubby and I will Celebrate and buy two new mountain bikes! Thanks for the inspiration !:girl_hug:

Hello All, I am Lanie -

I am so pleased to see this age specific forum. I was banded 12/21/07 and every time I read about someone losing 50 pounds in the first three weeks (I am exaggerating), I immediately look at their age.

I successfully lost 130 pounds on my own when I was 37, but had to have both my hips replaced and gain a about 90 back. After three years of trying to lose it again after 40, I decided I needed this tool to help me, so here I am.

I am eager to see more stats and experiences from women in their prime.

Keep moving forward!

Lanie

Rose, great plan on getting new bikes! It was about 8 weeks after surgery before I was comfortable on the bike and much longer before my butt quit hurting after a ride :omg:....but it was all worth it. I've even taken up running (very slow jogging if ya wanna know the truth) but I'm enjoying mixing up the exercise.

Keep us posted!

Hi there Lanie,

Congrats on the recent banding! I hear you about the over 40 losing weight issue....the fat seemed to have been stuck on with gorilla glue after I turned 40 :faint:

Wow Wndy, and banded family---very cool!

How are you all doing?

It's funny my DH and I decided to be banded to support our DS. I don't think that any of us would have had the surgery if it hadn't been that we were all doing it.

It has been so much easier staying on track because we are doing it together.

DH and I have both had our first fills. DS get his in another week or so. DS has had more problems with his band that DH and I. I don't know if it was because he had a hiatal surgery repair at the same time or what.

Wendy--you may have said at the beginning, but how old is your son? I was just wondering--it might sound silly--but women have varying restriction depending upon where they are in their cycle, and have tighter restriction during TOM--wonder if young mens surging hormones causes fluctuation in their restriction as well?

It is great seeing all the 40 sumthin's in here!!

Kat

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
