LapBandTalk CHAT

Autumn, first..congratulations! Next, be sure you have all the things you need for post surgery at your fingertips at home. I don't know what your doctor requires in the line of post surgery items, like plenty of broths, pain meds if you should need them, (liquid). Set heavy things at counter level where you do not have to reach for, nor pick them up. It is good to pre-prepare and possibly freeze items that can be put in the freezer for the rest of your family. Splurge on some quick fix frozen things for them if you don't have time to cook and freeze. Pay bills, clean house, run errands, ect. so in case you don't want to get out much for several days, you don't have to. No pushing, pulling, or lifting. You don't want to upset your port or the band before it can heal and seat in place. Sounds complicated but it's really not. I didn't have one bit of trouble. I did do a LOT of walking and moving around to help relieve any gas build up as soon as I got home, which was within a couple of hours after surgery. Just follow instructions and you will do fine. Good Luck and please let us know how you do. My email is sharonhenley00@yahoo.com if you have any questions.

I've been in the chat room and the etiquette was fine. It was a good place to talk about my upcoming (tomorrow) surgery with some who have already been there and some who haven't.

Well I just tried out the chat. It was fine. First time that has happen for me.

I found that when I went to the lap band chat rooms people were talking about everything but lap bands. I needed to talk about fills, getting the right foods, when to see my doctor, not who was leaving whom, etc.

It's a chat room. Once people start to get to know one another, they chat about whatever is on their collective "mind." Any time I'm there, regardless of what they're talking about, someone has been happy to answer questions and give me the benefit of their experiences. Give it a try!

Doer, you are absolutely correct. Honestly, I've been coming to the chat room for 2+ yrs now and there is only so much talk you can do for hours strictly on the band. We are always happy to change the subject and answer anyones question when they come in, all they have to do is ask!

Sorry, you guys are right. Guess I was just depressed when I wrote this. I have been lately, not sure why.. Guess things are not going like I thought they would with the fills and weight loss.

Forgive me??

thank you soooo much for this site Sesha........it is a lifeline for us bandsters!!

Hi Shesha,

It looks to me like what's showing as chat room participation is actually the roster of who's online at the time and which section of the board they're viewing. I'll try to find out what's going on.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
