newbie here- question about food addiction and lap-band

Recommended Posts

hello everybody!

I am looking into this surgery. I am morbidly obese, due to my food addiction. I do not have obese relatives, or slow metabolism. I am addicted to eating- alot! I have been food addicted for 20 yrs now. (i'm almost 40). I have tried therapy, group support, weight loss groups, etc etc- with no results-- because i can not control my urges to overeat.

my questsion is- does lap-bad surgery help with this crazy overeating compulsion??? i am afraid the surgery will not help me because my eating has nothing to do with "feeling hungry". actually i almost never feel true physical hunger. but i want to pig out all the time.

any replies would be very much appreciated!

congratulations to all of you who are getting healthier!

itsme

Welcome!

I can say that with proper restriction, food no longer runs my life (which is a major miracle)! Do lots of research before making your final decision since not everyone experiences the same positive results I've been blessed with so far!

Good luck!!!!!

Once you reach the right restriction ( three fills for me) You really can not overeat on solid foods. You can however eat around the band on soft junk, ice cream, candy, ect. The band does help control my appetite a good deal though, so it is pretty easy for me to stay away from junk. Donna

I no longer live to eat, I eat to live, and have to remind myself at times I need to eat.

Itsme, I can totally relate. I've started my six-month pre-op medically supervised diet and am starting to get very anxious about the "food addiction" part of my problem. I really hope the band will help me get to the place where I no longer live to eat -

My relationship with food has completely changed. Because I can't consume as much I choose very wise food choices now. I no longer want junk because I need to keep my energy high with good lean Proteins and good nutrition. Hopefully that will be the same for you too. Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
