getting stuck where?

Very informative everyone, thanks so much. I knew what they meant too but not in all that detail. PB doesn't sound like the right name for it, eh? I thought it was more like a chunky burp than a near barfing. Yikes! I don't want anything to do with sliming or PBing.

PB occurs at the esophagus, not the stomach. I politely soft butt some virtual heads over whether or not it is puking. To me, puking = vomitting, and vomitting = purging the contents of the stomach. When you PB, there are no stomach contents: acid, partially digested foods, etc. It's basically whatever got stuck, and whatever you've swallowed since.

I don't vomit much, seriously twice in the last 25+ years, but I don't remember much pain or misery associated with it. Some nausea, and then you have at it. When I PB, it hurts. I mean - I have a high pain tolerance, very high comapred to most, and there are times where I can't help but double over or cry out in pain. I don't even mean to do it, it just happens. Especially when the pain of an impending PB is accompanied by the hiccups. That's the worst. The PBs themselves are nothing. You wretch like you're puking, and if you're lucky some saliva and/or particles of stuck food come up. Maybe you need to repeat, maybe not. Either way, it ends the pain, and that makes you happy. :wink2:

my hubby has bad acid reflux (he's not banded). If he goes without his meds he will actually get a restriction in his throat from the acid scarring it. He will have food get stuck in his throat and he has to "PB" or he can't even breath sometimes. Weird how the body works.

Picture a funnel. If you put a bite of not-well-chewed-chicken over the opening of the funnel it is going to pretty much block anything else from going through and will just stay there. If you put a well chewed piece of chicken over the opening it will slowly start going through. The food does stay there -for a while- but is always slowly going through. (like a stream, not a puddle!) That was not a dumb question and it helped me to think about it to answer you! Thanks

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
