I have been approved for surgery and all I know is that it will be on a Wednesday in March 08. I am waiting for the letter from the hospital with the exact date. I am nervous, excited and desperate to get the letter so I can start organising things!

I found out on Wednesday that I was approved & I found out today that my surgery date is March 11th. I'm having lapband and breast reduction at the same time. The reduction was approved first, to help with upper back problems. It was the plastic surgeon that recommended weight-loss (duh....like I haven't tried & didn't know that I needed to do that!) and he recommended seeing the doctor who is now going to do my procedure. Exciting time, isn't it?

On the bummer note, I rear ended someone this evening and messed up the front of my Highlander! The airbags did not deploy, so I wasn't going that fast. Jeez Louise!!!! Just another crappy thing happening in my life......BUT, it hasn't taken away my "HIGH" on receiving my good, life~changing news this week!!!!! THANK YOU JESUS for no one getting hurt!

Hi thanks for your reply.

I spoke to my surgeon's secretary on Thursday and we have agreed my date is 19 March, or 26 March if he gets an emergency cancer patient. Wow, it's real now! I am going to try to lose weight between now and the surgery to make my recovery as easy as possible. Have a terrible cold at the moment though, which is making life really miserable, and all I want is Lucozade and chocolate.

Hard luck for your accident, and yes, at least no-one was hurt, which in the big scheme of things, is all that really matters!

Debbie

I hope that your cold gets better. What's Lucozade?

I started back to working out last week at the gym. I do this 1 hour circuit class (called a Strive class), then sit in the steam room & jacuzzi for a little while. I figured that getting my muscles a little more tone may help after surgery & it won't be as hard to start working out when they let me after surgery. Toning helps to prevent sagging! Plus maybe I'll be able to drop a few pounds also. Who knows !!! This is a good time of year for the gym, as summer is way to nuts and golfing takes up a lot of my alloted time (that doesn't count the "kids" allotted time, which is like almost always!!).

Hi it is much better now. Lucozade is a glucose energy drink here in the UK that you drink when you are sick and can't eat. Sports people also drink it for energy. I love it, but it's like fizzy sugar in a glass, so I try not to have it too often!

I went to a support group meeting on Sunday which was great, as I got to meet people awaiting surgery like me, and more importantly, people who have been banded for a time. It was great to see thin people who two years ago weighed 21 stone (300lbs)!

Maybe in two years that will be me!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
