Recommended Posts

ok, you guys, i went to the mall saturday and got some running shoes..whew hew!! i was supposed to start saturday, but i'm running 102 fever. and i haven't been able to get much down (food or liquids) because i'm sick and swollen.

i know right..excuses ..excuses. if i were just running fever, i would try, but i have body aches and a headach from hell. so. i'll be starting a little later. for right now about the only exercise i feel like doing is tossing and turning in the bed (freezing then sweating, freezing, then sweating).

Just finished my run for the night. I have one more to do for week One since i was a loser the first week LOL then I'll start week 2 on Tuesday . To get me back on track.

I have a question for ya'll ? What pace/speed do you have your treadmill set at when your walking and what do you have it at when your running ?

I set mine at 2.7 or 3 for walking and 3.5 for running . Is that ok to start with or do i need to go higher ?

Daddy you are the experienced one whatcha think ? ?

MIndy

Ok...Right now it really does not matter. YOu need to go really SLOW...when you start...i learnt that the hard way. Its all about building up you muscles and joints at this point but you will lose weight to.

Right now i walk about 3.5mph and then i run anywhere from 4.4mph to 4.7mph but dont go crazy! Just as long as your jogging it doesnt matter what speed it is right now. YOu can worry about that much later.

Your doing great! Your speeds sound fine. Just keep at it and make sure you rest inbetween runs...thats super important! You could swim or lift weights on your rest days if you want...thats what i did. Keep going colton just keep moving.

Health comes first!!!! don't worry. On the subject of running shoes....I would only go to a true running store. They do fits the best and it does make a difference on comfort and support.

Feel better.....

I finished an extra day of Week 1 workout yesterday. I wanted to get back on track for Tues/Thurs/Sat runs. I'm ready for week 2!!!!!

Mindy - how far does the treadmill show that you are getting after the whole workout? I'm on a track so I don't know about the speed. I'm making 6 laps which I'm guessing is 1 1/2 miles. I'm really slow - also I'm only 5' 0" so I have a really short stride to go with it.

As far as speed, when I did my very first workout last night, I did 3.0 for walking and 4.7 for running. I just know that if you walk a very fast 4mph, you can walk a mile in 15 minutes, so I figured anything over 4.0 is good.

It didnt kill me, and I was good and sweaty after the workout. I did some pilates exercises afterwords and that helped to relax me after the work out. I will do this again on Tuesday and Thursday of this week.

I am excited!

My treadmill shows 4 laps I think when im done . But I was jogging at a very comfortable pace , able to talk as he says on the pod casts.

So I think i'll try to move it up a notch every other run or so ?

Im going to try to find a yoga class around here to do on my off days or lift weights , my 15 yr old has a weight bench in our garage i can use.

Thanks for ya'lls help

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
