Drinking While Eating

Recommended Posts

Eating and Drinking at the Same Time. I'd like to break this habit, but it is ancient. I am chipping away at it supported by the discomfort I get when food and drink expand within the band.help.gif I am not really volunteering for the pain of this, so any suggestions, mind-sets or constructive habits to get me out of eating and drinking in the New Year would be appreciated. I was banded August 20th and I am down 31 pounds.

I had to slowly wean myself out of it. Now I only have 1 sip with meals maybe 1/10 times. You can try not ordering drinks, or having them available during meal times.

I ordered my drink but everytime I got the urge, I'd make myself hold out.. till eventually I'm done with dinner, and I'd had maybe 2-3 sips. This was before I had good restriction...

Now, I have such pain if I drink & eat now, I guess that's my main reinforcer.

I was terrified of not being able to drink with my meals.....I truly was!! It has been no issue at all for me....I don't order drinks of any kind when out at a restauraunt.

I eat most of my meals at home, and prepare them myself.....I just resigned myself to this is the way it HAS got to be. I knew that my surgeon would not have drilled this into our heads months prior to surgery if it were not highly important....for the success of my banding.

I actually do not miss it at all.......nor have I found that I NEED it. I drink alot prior to eating......I do not drink 30 minutes before my meal.

It is like anything else after doing it now going on two months.....I have created a habit...

Kristin, not drinking a little something with a meal kinda scares me. How long did it take for you to get used to not drinking with meals? I get banded next week.

Well like I told you it scared me to death, but I just said OK I cannot drink and I would stop and eat and then use a timer and wait and I did that religously from the day I was banded.

I never really missed it, because I have had real problems getting in all the liquid required because I feel full most of the time.... I am not complaining.

I know you think it will behard but it won't, you will not want to drink with your food....trust me there is no room in there.....if you keep hydrated between meals you will not need the liquid when you eat.

I know it doesn't seem possible but it is true.

Good Luck on your banding, I am sure everything will be fine.

I too have the same problem with drinking while eating. I was banded Oct. 2007, am down 20lbs, but I know I'd be down more if I could just stop drinking while eating.

Since my third fill I can not physically eat and drink at the same time. Every time I try to take a few sips after eating I get sick. Kind of strange, but keeps me from doing it.

Don't put a beverage on the table with you.

It's a mind over matter thing.

And think about it, if you need to "wash the food down" it's too big and you need to chew it better anyway.

I miss the flavor of my coffee with toast or soda with popcorn than I actually miss the beverage.

I actually stopped drinking with meals when I started my pre-op diet so by the time I was banded I would already be used to it. Plus, like others, I experience pain if I drink with my meals.

My daughter usually fixes our drinks at dinner and just doesn't put one out for me. When I go to restaurants, I never order a drink. It is always kind of funny because the wait staff get really concerned that I don't want anything and constantly keep asking me if I am really sure I don't want anything.

I always get an unsweet tea in a to-go cup. I like restaurant teas, so I enjoy it later :)

I got a glass of ice. I allowed myself to sip what was melted if I really felt the need for it. I noticed that after about 2 weeks of this, I didn't need it anymore.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
