Ok, I am 5 days post-op. Seriously, this is the first day I have felt like 'myself.'

My suggestion-have someone to stya with you for at least the first 3 days-they are so rough.

As I type I am on my first day home. Had to stay the night cause of sleep apnea. Im not moving much, peeing ever 1.5 hours (full bladder), and I'm sore. I drink whenever I can and if I don't breath fully, I get nausia. My neck muscles are starting to stiffen and I dont know how I plan to sleep tonight.

I originally wanted to return to work tomorrow, but Im not so sure atm. I sit in front of a computer all day so it might be ok.

Is peeing this often normal?

I am five days post-op now and the shoulder (gas) pains are still with me.

I was able to take off my bandages last night, other than the port cut all of the incisions look good.

This shoulder pain is something else....it hurts when I breathe a bit bigger than a normal breath...my chest cavity hurts... whenever I have my liquids I immediately feel pressure and I can't drink much more. No wonder I am losing weight like crazy....

This is day 3 since surgery on Monday morning. Dr. Stephen Hamn did my surgery laparoscopicly. He put me on a pain pump which I carry with me, plus I'm taking Lortab. I was up walking around by Monday evening at the hospital.

Before I left Tuesday afternoon, I walked around some more.

For the most part, on a 10 point scale, my pain was probably a 6 at most right after surgery and that was felt around my ribs and the port. Right now, I'm probably a 0 or 1. I feel more pain from my herniated disc than from the lap band surgery.

I had a dose of Lortab at noon today, so that might be helping to mask the pain, but I'm not in bed. I'm up and about the house. The gas activity in my abdominal cavity is the most annoying thing, but that has subsided after a few hours (total) in the bathroom.

I'm sure everyone's mileage varies, but for me this has gone pretty well. This is my third laparoscopic surgery and all of them have gone well, so my body just may be built for such surgeries. The other two were gall bladder and appendix.

Good Luck,

Danny

I'm another one who was up and around quickly after surgery and didn't take any pain meds. I did have some trouble with a herniated disk that was aggrevated during surgery, so wound up taking pain meds for that about days 5-7, but otherwise, I didn't have much pain at all. I did take naps, but was on a conference call for a meeting at work the morning after band surgery. Everyone is different.

I had surgery 3 days ago, I still don't feel ''GOOD'', guess air in my abdomin is what's causing me problems...It feels like there's a large area & that things are moving around in there. Is this normal??

I had my surgery on a Monday. The day of surgery I was walking around an hour after the procedure. That first day was rough, Tuesday was a little better, and by Wednesday I was feeling much better. MAKE SURE YOU DO AT LEAST SOME WALKING!! It will really help with the gas, it is NOT A MYTH! But other than that I just hung around the house, relaxed, played on the computer, took short walks, ect. It wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. I went back to work on Friday and was done with needing pain meds by Saturday.

I had two natural childbirths. The pain was nothing (lapband surgery) compared to my experiences with childbirth. I really didn't have that much pain from my surgery, only gas afterwards in my left shoulder and some touchiness at my port incision.

I slept day 1 and day 2. Day three was up but not that perky. Day 4 I woke up full of energy and cleaned house and went to the gym and walked a mile and a half.

I did get tired more easily afterwards. I think it was due to the major calorie reduction.

But, different people react differently, as you can see from the various stories. GOOD LUCK with your surgery.

I was banded 19 Oct 07 and only took the pain meds the day after surgery since I had a 3 hour drive home. After that, tylenol was all I needed. Lots of fluids so you don't get dehydrated and movement to keep the gas moving was the key for me. Rest is important so the help would be good for you.

Highest : 400+

Surgery: 276

Current: 233

I am a HAPPY BANDER to say the least

I had my surgery 12/31/07, I came home on 01/01/08. I have layed in a recliner since I got home. I get up to go to the bathroom, and I walk to end of the driveway each day. I haven't taken any pain meds since I have been home, but I feel like a horse has kicked me in the abdomen. Other than that I feel okay. I got really weak after my first shower. I am not able to eat more than 3 ounces at a time. I am doing soupy grits, Carnation instant Breakfast, Jello, juice, and apple sauce. Taking my daily meds, Celexa and Addrall sucks. Crushing them in apple sauce still doesn't cover that terrible taste.

Am I suppose to be still having this pain in the abdomen?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
