Hi,and Help it's getting harder! Long post

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I usually lurk on the different forums looking for my info on my own. My name is Cynthia and I was Banded on 02/12/2007. I can't lurk anymore, I need some support. I've had a few fills and I'm doing pretty good. My Dr (Dr. Shah, Lenox Hill Hospital) gave me larger fill last month because I really can still eat what he feels is too much. I can probably east a whole chicken thigh with a nice bowl full of veggies. Don't get me wrong I'm steady losing (except since this last fill last month). But I would have probably been down more if I could stop snacking in between meals. For a while I realy was getting hungery every 2-3 hrs. I am up to 3.2ml in my band. Now I'm not really hungrey but have gotten into the bad snacking habbit and still snack every 2-3hrs. Sometimes even if I feel full. I't's like I need food in my mouth. I have a thing for reese's peanutbutter cups, that is so hard to kick. That to me is a complete sabbotage (while I eat one now). I even went online today in search of some kind of low fat/calorie chocolate/peanut butter recipe but didn't find one.

I just need help/support/info. What ever you can provide. I believe for is some what of a passtime for me. I am a corrections officer and we really have limited resources while on duty. Such as we can't read books or anything and there really isn't much to do except eat and sit. It is especially hard because I've been working 16hrs a day everyday of work since August. I'm looking forward to when Jan 6th come. I have built up time so I can be off for 5 months and I'm hoping to some physical activities for at least 20 minutes each day that I'm off and hopefully kick these bad habbits and get into a good routine.

I haven't done so bad. I've lost 57lbs and only have 43lbs till goal but I gave gained 4 of those lbs in the past month. That can't go on. Be gentle while you guys tear me apart

Hi Cynthia....Don't be so hard on yourself. We all know the reason we were overweight to begin with was because we had an eating habit. Most of us eat out of habit not necessity. You need to find a replacement for the habit. Get a new habit. To help with my eating habit when I feel the need to eat I go and brush my teeth or read a chapter in a book. After doing this for a week or so the need to eat slowly deminishes. If you are addicted to reeses Peanut Butter cups allow yourself 1 or 2 of the Bite Size ones a day. I am addicted to 3 muskateres. I buy a bag of the bite size and eat 2 a day. That takes care of my craving.

Having the lap band surgery does not take away our cravings for food, it is only a tool in this fight we have against obesity. Don't punish your self or be too hard on yourself, I have been exactly where you are and will be there for the rest of my life I am sure. I was just banded a few weeks ago but have been battling obesity for 10 years. Old habits are hard to break. We can't undo in a day the habits we have spent our lifes living by. It will get better with time just hang in there. I know we can all do this one day at a time.

While you are at work have some sugar free hard candy in your pocket and when you feel the need to eat pop a piece of candy in your mouth or munch on a cup of ice. There are many ways to beat the habit and I just know you can do it. Reward yourself and be proud that you have lost as much as you have. Pat yourself on the back. You are doing great!!

First of all congratulations Cynthia on your weight loss... great achievement! :clap2: I know exactly how you feel about snacking... once you start the habit, it's hard to stop. Even though I'm back on track, I still had more to eat than I should have yesterday but hoping to curb that today. I guess we need to go back to basics to help kick start it again. I'm finding it harder because I'm off work and not keeping myself busy enough as I needed the break to rest up. Good luck with it and keep us posted on how you're going.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well. I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening. So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this?? Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
