Mushie Stage

Recommended Posts

It's pretty important to have Protein to help you heal and to keep your body from burning muscle for the Protein it needs. Have you tried adding a Protein Drink in between meals to help supplement your protein intake?
Four oz of Protein shake fills me up for hours. I've only been managing ~500 cal and between 30 and 40 g protein with a 25 g Protein Shake during the liquid phase. That's within my docs recommendations for the first few weeks. I'm sure I'll be increasing protein as I add some higher protein mushie foods, and I'm not too worried about reaching 60 g once I get to solids... I definitely have struggled with finding Liquid Protein that I can tolerate.
When I'm "full," if that's what it's called, I feel like I have to burp, but nothing will come out. Has anyone else experienced this feeling? How do the rest of you know when it's time to push the plate away?
That's kind of how it feels for me, plus a feeling of fullness behind my breastbone.

I know what you mean. I've been drinking the Isopure Zero Carb clear drinks (40 grams of protein/160 calories per 20 oz. bottle) and I gag every time I have to swallow the swill. Some people have posted different websites that offer sample sizes of Protein Drinks. You may be able to try a few until you find one that you like. If I come across those posts again, I'll send you the link.

JC2008 the chili was great. I never really have much gas from Beans. I am just lucky like that. It didnt cause any problems. I burp a lot anyway, after surgery, so maybe I just dont notice.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
