Weight Watchers - any success?

Recommended Posts

I have been struggling with my band for 6 months. I can't eat a lot of

solids so I was considering a slight unfill and joining Weight Watchers to

lose the last 40 lbs. Has anyone had any success with WW? Also,

for a bandster do you feel like it is too much food?

It sounds like a good plan. If you have trouble with solids, then you are probably not feeling full long enough.

You could always just lower the number of daily points at WW.

Maybe you could limit yourself to 16 to 20 points daily????

I think that would put you at 800 to 1000 calories a day.

I am banded and follow WW eating program as I feel that it is the most well balanced program out there - you eat healthy and have portion control..

If I start to slow down in loosing I go on WW. I do find that it is difficult to eat my # of points suggested for my body weight so I will drop down 2 places and eat fewer points. Sometimes I go over, sometimes I don't. But at least when I go over it doesn't even come close to my recommended daily point range. WW is good for teaching people how to eat healthy portions and nutrious foods. Now that we are banded it is so much easier to stick to, IMHO!

Thanks everyone! I am joining this Saturday with my sister. I have 40 lbs to goal. My doctor wants me to get to 185 which is still considered overweight at 5'8". 160-165 is normal weight but it is really hard for me to maintaine that weight. I will have him write me a doctor's note when I reach 185 so I can become lifetime. Thanks for the tip!

I follow the weight watchers food plan, ie

I count my points and weigh and measure just to make sure that my amounts aren't too much.

It is what I know as I have been doing it for 20 years.(Obviously without too much success )

However I have removed all sweets from it now.

Only good food.

I too have done WW throughout the years - also without a lot of success. However, when you stick to it it really works. Hopefully the band is the tool we all need!!

While I was waiting for surgery, I joined WW for the first time and really enjoyed the program. I was able to follow the flex points plan relatively easily and lost 40 pounds in 2 months. Unfortunately I then went to Europe and gained 30 pounds back, then lost it again before the surgery (oh the old see saw at work).

Since the surgery, I haven't been going to meetings, but I have been following the flex points program. I find it helps me to really monitor and be accountable for what I am eating (mindless eating and Portion Control are big issues with me).

Like another writer here, I don't necessarily use all my points (I think I am officially allowed 30 points each day, but I try to stay under 25). That being said, I also think it helps me be a little more realistic and not as guilty if I do have a higher calorie or fat day.

I don't feel a great deal of restriction (I can easily eat 3 oz of meat and about a cup of vegetables at one sitting), so I really feel the need to "help myself" by following a plan. So far it seems to be working for me.

I have never had luck with WW and that's why I am banded. Having said that, whatever it takes to make it happen for you, and if you believe this is a good plan, you should do it. Best to you on this last 40.

I joined WW last week. So far it realy seems to be helping me stay on track. I also feel like I really need the weekly weigh in for accountability. My weight control center has monthly eeting but they seem to be targeted to bypass, so I really like having a weekly meeting!

My doc is just starting a lapband only group next month - I told him that banders & bypass were 2 diff groups - we have different issues. So we are finally getting a group - but it's 20 miles away and will only meet once a month - I love lapbandtalk it is my support group - & My Lucky #7 gang - My over 50 gang - and i can come here 24/7 to get support from someone.

I LOVE WW - I would probably go - but the meetings are like 7:30 a.m. on Saturdays - and I go to the gym on Saturday morning and I don't like getting up at the crack of dawn on the weekends ( but heck I am usually up around 6 - 6;30) - I think WW is a liveable lifetime lifestyle program - you get all food groups even sweets...

Good Luck - I think you will learn so much - I know that I did when I did go to meetings....

I joined WW again last Tuesday. I'm hoping it will help me control what I'm eating, because I'm eating the right things lately. My doctor doesn't have a band group either, but it wouldn't do any good for me if he did because he's 70 miles away.

That's why I think this site is the GREATEST - it's open 24/7 - you have your monthly band group to keep you in ck and the whole site. But weight watcher wil help you learn a healthy lifetime lifestyle eating habits

You will succeed...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
