Holy Cr@p that hurt

Recommended Posts

So I have 3 fills in now and have some restriction, only started to notice after this last fill. I find that I still eat way too fast (working on that). Man when I do it hurts like hell. I am a slow learner and have at least one episode a day. Christmas has been hell with all the cakes and breads. That is what seems to get stuck the most. I get one bite and then pitch the rest, pain has been a great motivator. I have not had a PB, yet, and after a minute or two of the most intense pain it passes. Is this restriction or not normal?

Hey Buffetphan, sounds like restriction to me. I have had one fill, 5 cc's in a 14 cc band. It really isn't enough though. However, sometimes when I over do it, eating too much, too fast, I get that intense pain and start to panic. Thank goodness it passes after a few minutes. That little reminder will help me to slow it down and take smaller bites.

I had exactly the same experience today. I had to try a neighbor's homemade bananna nut bread. Thank goodness I was at home. I swallowed and wow the discomfort and pain. I even had a small panic. I tried to swallow some Water to help, no such luck. I finally did this crazy neck stretch looking up at the ceiling and it shoved itself down scraping what felt like a layer of the inside of my throat with it. I thought exactly what you typed - what a motivator to eat properly. I think this restriction is totally normal. I have had my second fill and didn't fill this until then. I would like to say it will never happen again, but I know that sometime later I will forget and do it again.

Wow, you could be describing my experience this week. It sure hurts but it's so great to feel the restriction. Believe me, I won't be eating any more of my mother-in-laws cinnamon swirl bread anytime soon  The little bite I took tasted great but I have no further desire to try another bite.

I am also a slow learner. For me it was Red Velvet cake. I tried it twice PBing both times. Cake and bread just do not go down for me, but I still try now and again.

After getting my 2nd fill on the 21st, I thought it would be a real problem at Christmas. Sailed through that with no problem. MY problem is I keep forgetting I have the band and pop something in my mouth and then take another bite too soon.

Holy CR@P that DOES hurt!! I like to think I'm learning, but I'm getting to the point where I don't want to eat anything because it feels like everything is getting stuck.

Back on liquids for awhile for me until it sinks into this stupid head that things ARE going down slower and to take it easy.

Old habits die hard...

Becky:

I think it's a game and we have to play it. I eat too fast too. So, I bought these one minute timers from unclesgames.com. I take a bite and tip it over. I can't take another bite until all of the sand has gone to the other side of the timer.

Another trick I play is to keep my food in the other room. Take a bite, turn the timer over, and walk in the other room and read e-mails, etc. Then I go back and as long as the timer's done I can have another bite. I don't get to eat alot of hot food this way because it always turns cold, but I keep from getting that pain this way.

Good luck.

Sue

pineapple juice works great when stuck... I had that happen to me with noodles from "Cup of Noodles"... I took two really big bites of noodles and and didn't chew well and they promptly got stuck... The pain was so intense that I was screaming with pain... I finally remembered about the pineapple juice and took a couple of very small sips and just like magic the noodles passed through my band...

Before I was banded I had read somewhere on here that pineapple juice and meat tenderizer worked good for getting food unstuck, so I went out and bought me a six pack of 6 oz cans of Dole Pineapple Juice and keep it on hand.... I also have some meat tenderizer and know of someone who put it in some warm Water and took sips and she said it worked well for her... So there you go, you can take your choice...

After I was able to get unstuck with the pineapple juice, I have been careful to take small bites and chew, but I also need another fill... I'm not feeling much restriction right now...

If I eat too fast, or do not chew enough, God help me. I'm in so much pain!!! And the hic-ups start and they hurt like hell too! I have had 3 fills to date, now have 6.5 cc in a 10cc band and I have restriction, good restriction. None after the first fill, some from the second and the third really did it. And the 3rd was only .5 cc! But what a difference! But I am learning slowly to eat slow, chew well. So I suffer more than I should. :)

Hey all, the pineapple juice is a magic potion... I was eating some broccoli salad yesterday and apparently didn't chew very well again and it got stuck.... I was in such bad pain I was ready to scream, but I got out my pineapple juice and took a couple of small sips and after about a minute just like magic I felt it go plop.... I then took a few more small sips and rested my band for awhile before trying to eat again.... But what a relief to get food unstuck so quickly and not slimming or PBing... I now make sure that I have pineapple juice in the cupboard...

4th fill in today now at 4.7 cc’s in a 10cc AP band. Have only had liquid today but can tell it is not going down as fast as it once did. Regular food in the AM so I must remember to chew and take small bites.

Trying to remember to chew my food have been stuck a few times but not to the point of PB. I can feel drink and food like I have never felt them before, this must be restriction. Feels almost as if it is backing up.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
