I'm on a liquid diet all the way up until surgery on Tuesday, the 22nd. I understand surgery, means a lifestyle change, but my lifestyle will not be a liquid diet. If anything, this must makes me want to eat more!

Sorry for venting, this liquid diet has brought out an angry side to me!

no problem that is what we are here for is to vent lol

Hello all, I just had my sleeve done October 15th I am now 2 days post op and going home. So far the gas pain and abdominal cramps are the most painful but not unbearable. Bring plenty of gas x extra strength, a life saver.

@julie. I think it’s weird that everyone’s pre op diet is so different. My nutritionist told me that it use to be all shakes before surgery but she asked the surgeon to include something chewy to help us not quit. I have to say it’s not simple. My surgeon is one of two drs at University of Miami hospital who does Bariatric surgery. He told me my husband could stay with me because the floor is his and he can specify a lot of things. I’ll be staying 2 nights because of distance and my age.
Just liquid the day before surgery for me and two weeks after also. Then every 2 weeks the next step. I would love a slice pizza or a grilled cheese sandwich right now. It hasn’t even been a week yet:)

My pre-op diet was 12 WEEKS of milk, skimmed milk powder or Protein Powder and Soup.

First time posting here!

Surgery date is 10/22. I'm currently doing my 2 week liquid diet and struggling. I miss eating good tasting food. I'm not a sweets person and these sweet Protein Shakes are tough to drink. And I can only handle so much broth.

Highest Weight: 395

Starting Weight: 261

Goal Weight: 180

I'm terrified I will be the person that doesn't lose any weight. I haven't told too many people about having surgery for this reason. I know my love for food is what got me to this point in the first place, but what I would give to have a plate of delicious nachos right now!

Hi Karla, I'm 9 days post op. I had all the same worries. But the whole point of the pre-op diet is to lose weight quickly. As long as you stick to it, it's almost impossible that you won't lose anything.

I know about cravings. Before surgery, I would have killed for a big mac. I was on a prolonged weight loss and lover shrink diet so it was 12 WEEKS (yes 12 weeks) of liquids. Once the first week passed, I got kind of used to it.

Post Op, I just want anything solid becaue I'm so sick of Soups. It does get better. You're on the right track and you can do this.

We believe in you!

Gastric Sleeve Surgery is October 28. I've waited over 25 years for this. Finally doing something for myself. Self pay and by myself. (My husband is supportive but is a junk food/fast food junkie and "can't" change that. He's 5'11" 180 lbs. Eats enormous amounts of food daily. It's not always easy to watch. (Like the two huge plates at my son's wedding, two cupcakes, and doughnuts."

I'm forced to use a restroom at work that is through the kitchen, constantly heavy ladened with junk food and Snacks.

Yet here I go. Started the process April 11, 2024 at 314 pounds.

HW: 350
SW: 314
CW: 262.8
GW: 120

Surgeon requires a 14 day liquid diet. 4 Protein Shakes a day. 64 oz of Water or other liquid (broth, SF popsicles or Jello, etc). Haven't had food since Monday and the days of hunger pains have been the same amount of days.

I'm tired. My son's "wife & kids" aren't speaking to me. The wedding was a lot of mutual acquaintances staring and whispering without speaking to me. My husband and I sat alone with everyone else as far away as they could get from us. His one childhood friend got drunk and was belligerent towards me. I felt so alone. Kept it together and got out as soon as I could, without eating. Took today off because I'm just struggling to get through the day until surgery. No one knows it's coming up except work, because they have to know. I feel so alone in this. And just want to be past the hard stuff and eat again.

I am on the exact same diet. It is not easy at all. My surgery date is on Tuesday. But girl, look how far you have come. This will all be worth it!! I keep telling myself that. It doesn't help my hunger pains. I have just been trying to keep really busy. Most days, it seems impossible and I'm not gonna lie, I had 1 bite of my daughters macaroni and cheese last night. It was amazing!! Sticking to this diet for 2 full weeks, is probably the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. And I have been through a lot!

Why aren't you son's wife and kids speaking to you? You don't have to tell, but I do understand. I don't speak to my boyfriend's son's. I even kicked them out of my house. My boyfriend is "supportive" of my choice of surgery, but isn't going with me when I have it(surgery is 3 hours away). Because it is the last 2 days of hunting season, and he has to watch the dogs. All I can say, is I am doing this for me. Whether he or anyone else is around in the end, I am choosing to get healthy for me. I will be around longer for my kids and live a happier, more fulfilling life. You are not alone, even though it feels like it, especially when this world revolves around food! From every ad, song, conversation, anything. Just know, you aren't alone.

You are beautiful! You are worth it! and I am proud of you! You have already come a long ways, and taking this step is courageous. Don't lose hope!

I flew to Turkey for my procedure and I honestly don't know that it could have gone any smoother. The hospital in Istanbul was the nicest hospital I've ever seen and everyone was so incredible thorough. I am going on my 5th day post op mini-bypass and I was able to walk three miles yesterday. Going to see the Hagia Sophia today. So far, my only regret is that I wish I made the decision sooner.

On another note, I didn't expect to feel hungry and crave food so quickly. Has anyone else experienced that?

I think I hit a stall earlier than I was hoping. I was 109.6kg on the morning of surgery and went down to 103 a week later and I'm hovering there. It's just frustrating! I know the stall will break, but I'm constantly thirsty, still wearing compression socks and doing the blood thinner injections and not seeing any progress. I know it will fall off eventually, I just want to rant for a moment.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
