Is it normal to have no restriction

Recommended Posts

- I can eat anything and as much of it as I want.... getting my first fill next Tuesday (thank God)... my question is, is it normal to have no restriction but still PB if I don't chew properly? I am chewing well, just clearly not well enough.

Just wondering if I do have restriction but maybe am ignoring my "you are full" signs....

This whole head hunger vs. real hunger is so hard, unless I get to the point where I am physically starving.

I am so worried about this fill too? Has anyone had it done with no numbing meds? It seems like I'll be taking one needle so I don't feel the second needle, wonder if I should bother with the numbing stuff... what do you think?

Okay - so I had TWO questions, lol.

Hey Emmy-

If you are PBing at all, then you have restriction. You probably don't have much restriction, because you don't have a fill and the swelling from the surgery has gone down. There are a few people that have good restriction just from the band, but most of us need a fill or 2 or 3 to get going.

The needle they use for the numbing agent is really really tiny, and the needle they use for the fill itself is quite a bit bigger. I'm a baby, so I would always want the numbing stuff, but I can see how people would do without.

Good luck!

Yep! I could eat like a horse before and after my 1st fill, and my 2nd fill! Third fill finally gave some restriction. Go for the numbing. Its hurts a lot less than that big needle would!

I understand what you are saying, because I didn't think I had restriction but I still PB'd. Maybe you don't think you have restriction, but you probably have a little. Can you honestly still eat the same amount as before? I didn't think I had restriction, but there's no way I could have eaten $15.00 worth of Taco Bell like I used to.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
