Congratulations! Be careful though. 15 bean Soup sounds like a lot coming right off a liquid diet & this soon after surgery. I had my endoscopy today, my gastric bypass surgery was Feb. 2nd, 2024. I have an anastomotic stenosis(stricture) & an ulcer. I hate it but it definitely explains the pain & intolerance when eating & drinking & the abdominal pain.

Bummer. How are they going to treat this? And, I'm in NC too... Western foothills.

The doctor did say I'm losing weight at the low end of normal. I need to increase my exercise, which I definitely struggle with. I need to figure out a good way to incorporate exercise every day.

I must be on the low end of normal too. I've lost a total of 27 pounds from the start of that pre-op diet... 16 since surgery I believe. My surgery was the day after yours.

Almost exactly the same here. 16 pre op and 13 post op. I'm having a little stall right now with three days stuck at 210, but not going to worry. My focus right now is coming up with good food options I can rotate for meals and figuring out what time of day would be best for exercise.

They treated the stricture by stretching it during the endoscopy. I have to have another endoscopy in 2 months to repeat the procedure to see if the stricture is still open & see if my ulcer is healing. He called in medicine that I have to take 4 times a day for several months to heal the ulcer. I hope it isn't gross! I have the worst gag reflex!🤮 In fact, I'm really struggling with some of my meds, specifically the capsules that have beads in them. I gag EVERY single time I take it! Anyone else having a hard time with crushing their meds & putting it in apple sauce? It's just so nasty & 6 months is a looong time!

In the foothills...nice! I'm in Eastern NC & closer to the beach but I do love our NC mountains! We are blessed, we have a beautiful state! We'll have to stay in touch since our surgeries are so close together! I had RNYGBS Feb. 2nd & I'm down 36lbs as of today.

Thankfully I had no problems with the bean soup! It tasted delicious and has been super easy to digest. I love the Instant Pot because the Beans went from dry in the bag to tender and completely cooked in about 90 minutes.

I hope your stricture and ulcer resolve soon!

HI all! @NickelChip great that you’re allowed to eat again. @Holly W. sorry to hear about the complications you’re having.

I have had cystitis since the day before yesterday for the first time in years … I’m probably not drinking enough. I’ve got antibiotics but it’s a right bore. I had a five hour flight this morning from Paris to Cairo ( work conf) and it was excruciating… hope it passes soon!

Hi @Beljer72 How are you getting along? I had mine 10 days before you. I'm generally fine but have very dry skin, am still quite tired and have had horrible cystitis for the past few days ...

I had my gastric bypass surgery March 19th. Due to complications, they had to cut me from breast bone to belly button! I know it will all be worth it, but having my kids and back surgery sure beat the snot out of this surgery!

I hope you have a speedy recovery!

Hey there! How are you feeling?

I feel you with the struggle taking pills. I’m not putting mine in applesauce I’m trying to swallow them, but it can take me an hour to get four or five pills down. I think about them and I start to gag. And it’s really weird to me because I used to be able to just pop a mull in my mouth and take them no problem.

We are heading out your way today. My husband and I are heading to Myrtle Beach for a few days. I’ve lived in NC for almost 25 years and I’ve never seen the beaches of North Carolina, only South Carolina.

Let’s do keep in touch, please!

Hows everyone getting on ? I'm abroad at a conference as so can't weigh myself - but I'm exhausted and struggling with all meals being communal. I'm feeling slightly miserable to be honest. My cysitis has sort of calmed down but I'm struggling to drink more than 2 liters (68oz) a day and from past experience I know thats the only way I will be able to get rid of my Water infection....

I'm so sorry you are struggling. That doesn't sound fun at all. I, too, am struggling with Fluid intake. I'm barely getting 20 oz a day lately and I know I need to do better. Can you do sugar-free popsicles? I guess that would be hard when traveling though. broth, Soup? or does it have to be Water?

I'm trying to be really careful because I'm in Cairo (Eygpt) for work and it's renound for people getting travellers diarrhea so I'm only really drinking bottled Water. Also I don't have any cooking falicities ... might see if I can find a popsicle though tonight!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
