good to know! Although fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your perspective), I'm not a dumper.

Never? Lucky! I dumped when I had just VSG, it’s not as bad for me now with RNY because I’ve been avoiding problematic foods for so long. But every once in a while I still have a problem.

I'd like to test that study on Thanksgiving when I eat a piece of pumpkin or pecan pie . Would the butter or crisco in the crust be enough I wonder??? LOL

More than likely I won't test on that day since I would be too worried of having to run to the bathroom every 5 minutes. I don't dump on fried stuff I found out but I ate a piece of birthday cake once and I lived in the bathroom for the rest of the night. I don't get nauseous or sick, just goes right thru me.

I know..I know. TMI. But we are talking about dumping so.....

New research on Dumping Syndrome!

Researchers found that adding fat to a carbohydrate meal reduced blood glucose rises and intensity of symptoms.

https://www.cureus.com/articles/203417-the-effect-of-fat-supplementation-on-the-appearance-of-symptoms-associated-with-dumping-syndrome-in-patients-having-undergone-gastric-surgery-preliminary-results?score_article=true#!/

Interesting study. I'd like to see a larger study participant base...but promising. As my grandmother used to say "everything in moderation, the body makes use of each food type just don't over do!"

nope - only about 30% of RNYers dump, and I'm evidently not one of them! (I sometimes wish I was - to keep myself from eating certain things!)

Dumping is an interesting phenomenon. I had a good friend about 20 years ago who had an old school bypass and she would dump all the time. She'd sit there with a pack of candy, eat some, breathe through the dumping symptoms, and continue to eat it! This was my first exposure to someone with weight loss surgery. I thought she was insane. She also refused to use Protein powders so her hair was brittle and falling out. And she didn't take her Vitamins so her Calcium was low and she'd get heart palpitations. It scared me off of the surgery for a long time. I didn't want to turn out like her! I'm so glad I learned there are better ways...

DS patients aren't supposed to get dumping but I drank too much Water too fast once and got all the classic symptoms of dumping, including the bathroom runs. It was VERY unpleasant and I will never do it again! LOL I also had a mushroom Soup the other night that turned out to have 33 carbs in it (which I didn't realize until I went to log it). Holy cow I thought I was going to die. Same symptoms. I don't have to imagine what will happen if I try to eat a piece of pie!

7 years after VSG I have gained back 40 pounds (lost 102) and now I am dumping. It is very strange because it happens with almost anything I consume and any quantity. I am thinking of going on a mostly liquid diet to get the 40 pounds off and hopefully stop the dumping. Any advice is appreciated.

I would immediately re-establish care with your Bariatric doctor and voice your concerns with vigor. Tell them you need more than just a nutritionist visit, you would like testing to check on your anatomy.
To help with the dumping immediately try to really watch the sugar (and fat) content per serving in the foods/drinks you consume. Keep it as low as possible like your post op directions (I think it was 5 grams or less in my instructions)

Good Luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
