January 2024 surgery buddies

Recommended Posts

I absolutely wish you luck. I went in with the attitude that I would be fine, that I wanted my own nightclothes on ASAP and to be up and mobile. My friend had a sleeve 5yrs ago and was very sickie afterwards, vomited a lot, I wanted to avoid that so asked which pain relief I’d be given post surgery and they said Tramadol and Di-hydrocodeine both of which I know make me queasy so I asked not to have these. Which I think helped me immensely.

I was tired yesterday but have more energy after a good nights sleep. I’ll update my progress but for all you awaiting your surgery it was not bad.

Today is 8 days post op. It seems like my innards are awaking and they don't like me right now, but that's nothing new. Yesterday I made Breakfast, took a half hour brisk walk on the treadmill, went grocery shopping and made my little 2 oz food containers, baked a cake and made dinner, then folded the laundry. All told, I'm feeling much more normal again, feeling antsy to get moving and I'm having more difficulty limiting myself than motivating myself.

Before the surgery I was used to either a one hour lap swim with drills, or a one hour fast walk on the treadmill with hand weights. For the liquid diet I shortened both to about 40 min and slowed a bit, no hand weights. My body still wants to move but I know that I can't get too worked up right now, I need to heal more first. I have my first Post-op appt on Tuesday, hoping I can go back to swimming next week if my incisions are healed enough? 🤞

You are a powerhouse. Well done. What are you putting in your 2oz food containers? I’ve got 2wks of Protein Drinks, Soups etc but not even thought about soft diet yet.

Have you re-started driving? I’ve been advised no driving for 3wks which is going to be very difficult. How has anyone else managed?

I was told it was okay to drive as soon as I was off the pain meds which I've only taken one the first night home. Tylenol's been working good for me. Surgery Monday morning, came home Tuesday at 3:00 out running errands today.

So my 2oz food containers are tuna fish with light mayo, then I add a splash of Pickle Juice to it for flavor. I also whipped up some Jell-O Sugar Free Chocolate Fudge pudding, with 2 cups of Fairlife (extra Protein, lactose free) skim milk and a scoop of Isopure Protein Powder. I've also mixed tuna with cottage cheese, and salmon with light cream cheese. Today I pureed ground turkey with some broth, ate it with taco bell mild sauce. Seems to be doing just fine in my belly. Oh, and Chobani Zero Greek Yogurt, the flavors are great, very low calories, lots of protein and goes down so nicely.

I do feel cra**y some too, just keep trying to keep moving. Mainly I've had a lot of gas pain and cramping, moving really helps that. Yesterday when I made breakfast I had my family finish it, I got tired and wanted to just sit and eat.

Hello!! January 30th is my date. I’m nervous. I lost 130 pounds on my own in the last couple of years and have gained at least 50
Of it back, I keep telling myself this is the right thing to do I don’t want all that weight back, I’m glad I’m catching it in time but I am still nervous. I got a surgery date 5 years ago and backed out due to my career and trying to do it on my own. Now here I am again and I refuse to back out.Wish me luck and God Bless.

This is a big step so it’s only natural to be nervous. I was the same but just knew there was no point doing the same things over and over to get the same result. Time for change. I wish you all the luck in the world, have faith you can do this. Focus on how physically healthy you will feel afterwards.

Those all sound tasty. You are very organised which is half the battle. Pickle Juice is a nice flavoursome addition, I shall try that. I am vegetarian so am thinking of how to adapt your ideas.
how are you finding hot foods? The Soup I had today caused me some discomfort but I can easily sip away at a Protein Shake. Raising my arms above my head and gently twisting my torso has helped me relieve gas pains.
I had a 4hr nap earlier, so although I feel fine I must be tired. Trying to remind myself this is a marathon not a sprint.
Have a Good Friday. 👍

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
