I thought I read wrong. Starting to think it’s true. We really can’t reheat food? 🥹 I’m the left over queen. I tried left over food 3 times and each time it turned into my worst enemy 😩. Why me lord… it’s not in my budget to cook every single day. Or order food every single day. Help friends help me please!

I read on here that some people did not have good outcomes after trying to eat left overs. I’m doing great with freshly cooked meals and fluids. But once I have to reheat it. All hell breaks loose. I’m so nauseous and also vomiting.

I haven’t heard anything like that before.
If you reheat in the microwave maybe try the stove top instead.

I've never had an issue (with either my sleeve or now my bypass) when reheating food. I do it all the time because I can never finish what I order from restaurants when I eat with my colleagues.

I reheat all the time. I cook one night then eat the leftovers for the next two or three nights. Just portion everything up into single appropriate portion sizes. My freezer is full of leftover meals I’ve made & frozen to defrost & reheat to eat at other times. (I call my freezer my local take away.😉)

The only thing is they recommend you only chill/freeze then reheat the same food once but that’s for everyone not just bariatric patients (because of the bacteria in food & possible food poisoning). Maybe that’s what was meant?

I have read that some folks have issues with reheated meat specifically, simply because it gets drier/tougher once cooled and then reheated. The leftovers themselves aren't the issue, its the change in texture/moisture that results, as I understand it. I would say if you are trying to eat leftovers make sure they are an appropriate texture for the phase of your post-op diet you're in, chew well, take your time eating, etc. I never had an issue with it and eat leftovers quite often, but everyone is different and things. Also, if something doesn't sit well now, give it a few weeks and they try again. Sometimes we just aren't quite ready for something but find we can tolerate it much better a little later on. Hang in there!

I am having this issue and the nutritionist suggested I let food cool way down to room temperature after heating it up or not heating it too much. It helps, but I still have problems with meat, in general, but especially reheated. It’s frustrating.

I’ve decided to stick with liquid and shakes for now. Maybe you can confirm for the both of us that it’s ok. Lol

In my past life I was a pescatarian/vegan/vegetarian. Idk. Anything that walked I didn’t eat. Lol And I loved it. I know the booklet from the hospital suggested a Mediterranean diet after and before surgery which is very similar to what I was already doing.

I've read it helps if you add moisture to your food before re-heating (ex: a little bit of bouillon to your meat)

Oh wow every day is a school day! I had never heard of this before today, and certainly never experienced it because I reheat things ALL THE TIME (I'm sleeved though). But I can see now how it is a thing.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
