Chewable Vitamins vs Swallowing

Recommended Posts

Some of the companies offer samples too. I know Bariatric Advantage offered samples if their Multivitamin and the calcium chews back when I got my sleeve and bariatric pal sells a sample pack of their chews on this site.

I was expected to start the Vitamins from day 1 post op.

They were disgusting chewable ones and I couldn't keep them down (due to complications from my surgery) so I had to wait a month, then started different capsule ones which were fine but two weeks later had to stop when I had to go back into hospital and was put on a feeding tube. Have been back on the capsule ones since finally discharged from hospital.

I couldnt do pill vits or chewable. so doc told me to get the Patches. So that is what i have been using for over a year now.

Javier labs been good with those. If so, how often do you have them done? I was curious about them, but my doctor said there wasn’t a whole lot of research and wouldn’t recommend them except for in case like yours when it’s them or nothing.

I take 2 flintstones chewables with a B12 and D3. I chew them all together. The flintstones are so flavored that i dont notice the others.

I think taking capsules with Water makes me feel over full and then i start burping a LOT. Chalky chewable seems to work for me.
I did find vit D chewables at Amazon too

I use 4 different ones.. stick them on every night just before bed.. then remove then sometime after I wake up.. 8 hrs is recommended but you can leave on longer. I get mine though PatchAid.

I might be the odd here and like my chewable better than the pill. The supplement pills usually are larger and I hate taking it. I tried the chewable before surgery and it tasted gross, but for some reason my taste bud changed and it tasted ok for me after surgery. It’s like candy for me, so I like to think it’s a snack instead taking pills.

I didn’t mine my chewable before or after surgery. I only switched because I need more Iron. I really like the Bariatric Advantage calcium chews too. They are like starbursts, 4g carbs each though. Adds up.

How often do you do your labs? Are they okay?? My team has us do them every 3 months for the first year at least.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
