I’m a sleever, I had it done 7 years ago and have been able to keep most of it off…I gained 30lbs after my 5th year but with the help of these Vitamins and with exercise I’ve been able to take off 25lbs and have remained here… I’m very comfortable at my 130lb weight 🥰

I'm 51 and just got my surgery date last week - Sept 11th. I've lost just at 30 pounds pre-surgery so far. Getting excited that it is coming up, also a little nervous - feeling like I need to make sure I get a few last "solids" I like in before the months of liquid and puree. I feel like I am stagnating right before my surgery, I'm hoping that is not the case, as I have been having very little trouble motivating myself, so far. I think it's more nerves than anything.

So far, I have chosen not to tell anyone outside of my household. I am planning to tell my in-laws in the next week. Not sure if I'll talk to anyone else about it before it's done.

Good luck on your surgery and journey to a new better you! As far as telling people, i told everybody!! Some people are not that open though. Tell whoever you wish and if you dont want to tell others and they ask you about your weight loss after surgery just tell them you are eating less and watching what you eat.... that is the truth after all right?! I wish you much success on your journey!

Last week, after I spoke to my in-laws, I told a few of my close colleagues at work. I knew they would be supportive, but I didn't expect them all to say they were proud of me and excited for me! Less than a week to go!!!

I just turned 60 and am scheduled for VSG on October 2nd. My BMI is 40, so I'm expecting a slower rate of weight loss. Maybe I'll be surprised and will lose weight faster than I expect.

Congratulations and good luck on your surgery!!! As long as the scale is going down, it doesn't matter how quickly we lose the weight!

You'll do fine! I am 53, and when I had my gastric sleeve in April, my BMI was 42, and 5 months later my BMI is 32. Just follow your doctor's instructions and be patient. We're rooting for you!

Hey all. I'm about 4.5 months out from being sleeved at 50 (now 51)and doing really well. I'm down 32.7 kilograms (72 pounds). My BMI is down from 67 to just under 53 and I've lost 21% of my total weight. I'm tolerating all foods fine although rice does sit a bit h3avy. I rarely have it so not a big deal. Hitting Protein goals with ease, need to be better with fluids. I can't wait to see where this journey continues to take me!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
