Hey All!
I am exactly 1 week post op today.
Sleeved 5/22/2023
I am currently on full liquids. Allowed cream Soups - watered down with water/skim milk.
I feel like everything is making me cramp. As soon as it goes down, I’ll cramp for like a second and it goes away. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this the normal healing process? I don’t know if it’s me taking too much in too fast - I will literally wait a few minutes to try more and still cramp. I’m sipping. Taking things slow but… cramps!
This may be completely the norm and something that gets better with time.. just thought I’d ask the community and hear your experiences. Thank you so much!

When I was sleeved back in 2015, I was given a mild muscle relaxant to take if needed. I think I took it the first couple of days due to abdominal cramping so I believe what you are experiencing is normal.

I agree with Tomo, this sounds completely normal. I had the cramping, spasm, and had to take it real slow at first. Your new pouch is adjusting and the rest of your system is recovering. You may also find that it’s the temperature of the food. Some do better with hot, some do better with cold, some do better with room temperature, it’s just finding out what’s right for your body. At first, I could only tolerate slightly warm, anything cool or cold made the cramps worse. Gradually, I could tolerate all temperatures.

I had cramping and they prescribed me what they described as a "muscle relaxer for the digestive tract" which helped quite a bit (the specific medication is Hycoscyamine but there are several medications in that class like Bentyl that do the same thing). It helped quite a bit.

It sounds like you need to follow up with your team to make sure they know what's going on. They may be able to call you in a prescription or make a recommendation of things you can do.

I get that sometimes, especially if I drink something that's too cold or drink and then lay down. For me, it passes pretty quickly. However, since Sunday, I've been getting lower abdominal cramping that is pretty intense right before I need to pass gas. My surgery was May 1st. Hope this resolves, and I agree, call your team.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
