hi, I am having the gastric sleeve surgery a week from monday, 3/27. i have been smoking weed and vaping for quite some time and it’s really hard to stop. I have not been honest yet about it because i don’t want them to cancel the surgery but i understand that my life could be at risk. i just need some help and support and advice. has anyone smoked or vaped close to surgery? did you survive?

Can’t advise on the vapping or weed question but I would be really worried if someone who didn’t survive replied. 👻👻

Will point out though that both compromise your recovery & healing, hinder your breathing during the surgery, increase your risk of clots, etc. And some surgeons test to see if you have stopped using before surgery.

Hi , I was never asked about weed .You might be asked if you smoke or vape .My husband smokes and he has had a few operations but really just be honest with them and ask will it slow down your recovery ? Some doctors smoke and I doubt they'll be shocked .Best get it off your chest before hand or it'll just play on your mind .Good luck .

They tested me for nicotine. I don't think they tested me for weed, but I'm not exposed to that so don't really care. I was worried about the nicotine, because my husband vaped at that time. I was afraid of the second hand exposure. But, it was fine.

You might want to seek professional help for your addictions. This is actually going to come up later, because you might have an issue with transfer addiction to food. You want to set yourself up for the best success. Even if your drug tests come back negative, you're going to want to deal with these issues as soon as possible.

Hi, I am from a state where weed is legal, I have not had my surgery yet, but I am on track for it. I was asked about marijuana use and was told that edibles are okay, but smoking not so much, especially after surgery (during the healing process) the smoke can make healing more difficult and much slower.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
