Able to drink and eat like normal?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. I am 1 week and a few days post Op from my sleeve surgery. I’m a little concern because I have notice that I am able to drink Water like normal. I’m also able to drink Protein Shakes without a problem. I had mash potato and I was able to eat a good amount without having to feel horrible. I know everyone is different. I just find it strange. Has anyone dealt with this? I’m just nervous that this surgery did not work.

I'm 1 month & a week out & I had 0 trouble drinking & eating especially in my liquid & puree stage. Everything went down smooth & I had no pain. I would say that's the ideal situation.

Or do you mean you're eating large amounts without problem? Do you know how many ounces of food you're eating?

I had no problems hitting my fluid goals just a few days after surgery. Starting hitting my Protein goals within about a week and a half. I always measured my food so I knew I wasn't eating too much and ate VERY slow to be safe.

Your stomach is still healing, the nerves have been cut so don't push it even if you can. You won't have full sensation until your stomach heals.

I was able to drink more than just little sips, so I don't think that is too odd. Just remember soft and liquid foods go through your new stomach pouch easier, and when you eat those firmer foods, it's a different ball game. I thought my pouch was too big till I ate firm foods... then realized I can't even finish an egg.

I’m just drinking and eating purée without any issues. Sometimes certain things hurt going down but then the pain quickly goes away. I haven’t really tried eating too much because I’m scared.
How are you with eating solids now ?

ok I see what you mean now. I was in the same boat! I did not fully feel the restriction until I switched to soft solids. I don't feel pain but I feel a bit of pressure when it goes down. if anything we're lucky! Don't worry about it too much, the liquids & purees are -suppose- to be the easiest. You may feel your restriction once you graduate to solids/more foods.

If the fluids were warm, I could drink like normal from day 1. If they were cold, I had to sip until about 3 weeks out. Took longer for my stomach to tolerate cold drinks.

I am like this. I am 2 weeks today and I am not feeling the restriction. I just feel hungry.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
