Looking Sick After Band

Recommended Posts

The time for my banding is fasting approaching and I am getting a little nervous..... never been into hospital in my 41 years!!!

Okay here goes... some people after WLS lookpale and sick. I don't want to look sick.... Is it because they lose to fast and too much?

I want to look healthy. I am a big guy.... of course now I am a BIG GUY! But normally even in college I played football on the line. I am a big guy. So for me too get too small I would look sick...

HElP anyone what do you guys think... or girls.....

I've never met a bandster who had the same "look" as some of the patients of other WLS types. Losing weight quickly can contribute, but so can things like deficiences, and body reactions.

I know the "look" you speak of and that was one of my concerns too. I'm also someone who isn't trying to get to a really small size. I'm comfortable with curves - I just don't want rolls any more - lol.

The band should be a good choice for you because you can control your restriction and rate of weight loss. At this stage in the game, I wouldn't worry too much about losing the weight too fast ... for most of us, it can't happen fast enough!!

There's only 1 person I can think of in all the Lap Band before & after pics I've seen that I thought had that "look".

I feel like I have dark circles under my eyes and for some reason that's an area that I've always hyper-focused on. It seems like they are more pronounced now that my face is getting slimmer. :)

I actually look healthier than my non banded peers. I am athletic, and strong with thick hair, clear skin and bright eyes. I put that down to my vegetarian diet and exercise. I look after myself better than the majority of the population.

Gosh, I so know what you mean. When I went with my sister to RNY support groups before her surgery... we spoke of that so much...not to them, of course.

Why are gastric bypass/RNY patients so pasty looking?

And will that happen with the band...well, I guess I should know...I'm 4 pounds from my goal.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
