How do you deal with OTHER people's expectations ??

Recommended Posts

This was/is my biggest issue with the whole process. I have always been a slow ( I mean really slow) loser. I was reluctant to tell people, but when you see people and can't eat, it's kind of hard not to say something.

I find most people still don't understand the band at all. My manicurist just thought the band goes on and that's it, you can't eat a lot. I had to explain it's a slow process of being filled etc. ( The commercials on TV don't explain that part).

Almost everyone knows a gastric bypass patient and they expect us to have the same fast weight loss.

So right now I am avoiding family and friends for awhile, that way if they don't see me often, when they do see me maybe there will be enough change for them to notice.

I truly believe everyone's expectations ( and sometimes our own) is THE hardest part of this journey.

We just have to hang in and do our best and be the "leader of the band".

I can relate. I have a great website that he should read. A woman that had it done writes all about her journey. It made so much sense to me and I shared it with my family. You should al so read it.

read that and see if that helps you with your struggles. Dad and everyone should read it. Let me know what you think.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
