A little off balance when walking

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am a newbie here had surgery on Aug 4, 2022. Lost a total of 55 lbs. So I have this weird question ( or maybe not). I am working back up to a mile a day walking, but what I noticed when out walking is I seem to be off balance. I was told this is common because your stride is adjusting to the weight deferential along with muscle loss. I do not have an ear infection or anything like that. So all seems weird, had blood test done all is good. Seen my doctor all fine there as well.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Many us held our bodies is unnatural ways to compensate for the weight we carried & now all the muscles & tendons have to relearn correct posture the weight disappears. You’ll likely even notice weird aches & pains as your body readjusts your centre of gravity.

I had upper back pain & jokingly commented to my acupuncturist that maybe it was because my boobs had gotten smaller & all my bras were too big. I was right. Bought some new underwear that actually fit & the back pain went.

A friend & I used to joke about how we often found ourselves slouching because we didn’t have a tummy to hold our upper body up any more. We both had to start being more conscious about ensuring we were standing up straight to reteach our bodies how to stand.

I slouch too and I said the same thing. My giant belly isn't holding me up anymore. I find myself pushing to sit up straight but I usually don't notice it till my back starts hurting.

Our bodies do ALL KINDS of adjusting as we are loosing weight so rapidly. I can't say for sure what is what because we are all different. Started a different sizes and body types, loose at different paces, etc.

If it gets to the point it effects you, reach out to your team for extra reassurance but I think it is safe to say your body is adjusting.

Good luck!

Sometimes I watch myself on cam and I am walking tilted or forward like an old person. I walked for years with my legs rubbing together, and it still feels weird to have space between my thighs. I run, exercise and jump fine, I feel great but when walking around the house I sometimes walk imbalanced too.

Thanks @Tomo. I also noticed you had your surgery on same day as me just a year ago. I hope I do as good as you have done in the last year or so. Amazing!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
