Hello I am scheduled Wednesday the 31st for Sleeve. I am trying to get a basic list of what I will need when I get discharged.

So far I have My Protein Powder and a few shakes whey Protein Soups ,vitamins, measuring cups,4oz containers food scale, compression socks, a gripper to help be pick things up if they fall. Tylenol dissolve packs. Should I purchase the Clear Protein Drinks?

I would get the clear Protein waters and sugar free Popsicles and sugar free Jello I liked the chicken Soup and strained out the stuff out because you can taste the stuff in it. The clear liquid part of the diet is easier if you have a variety. I had the bypass last December I'm not sure how long you are on the clear diet is for the sleeve also maybe something to make ice or Popsicles with protein water

A walking cane helped a ton for the first couple months to get up from chairs and to have a little extra support at times.

I hated the taste of the shakes as they tasted too sweet so I did the clear Protein drinks. Whatever you buy though don’t buy too much cause you may not like them post surgery. Maybe try convenience stores to buy singles of shakes and drinks to have a variety to try.

Definitely you got a lot of what you’ll need. Make sure you take your Vitamins when they tell you to do so and drink that Water as they instruct. Lastly what really helped me big time was I made Bone Broth and when I was busy I would then buy the organic low sodium kind. It’s great for nutrition, nutrition and more nutrition. Later I used it to purée my veggies, chicken, Turkey and when I could eat lentils I used it as well. I made delicious and nutritious puréed Soups and I really attributed that to not once ever getting sick or feeling bad at all. Wish you the best but you look like your so ready and got this.

A pillow wedge to sleep or rest on. It was invaluable right after surgery (and still is) to me. Some use a recliner but I'm poor so I have the next best thing, a big pillow wedge. Helped me get out of bed easier on the first couple of days.

Tomorrow I begin the 7 day pre-op. Yikes I am a little nervous. 5 shakes a day and fluids a minimum of 64oz/day. It sounds simple but after failing all the diets I’ve tried in the past 30 years I am afraid of failing. It’s the beginning of the new me. I can do it

I second the binder recommendation. Binders help to reduce discomfort when you have to move or walk. Check with your team, oftentimes they put one on in the OR right after surgery. You'll only need it for a couple weeks probably at most, so if they provide one, you won't need to buy one.

Also a heating pad is helpful for the surgery gas that is used to insulfflate your abdomen, and when it travels from your abdomen, up to your back and neck. (Walking often helps to move the gas out of your system too.)

A tracking app like Baritastic or My Fitness Pal to track your fluids and Protein is a big help also. I know some people set alarms on their phones to remind them to drink every 15 minutes.

Best wishes!

+1 on the sugar free popsicles. I also made and froze some homemade chicken broth (filtered through coffee filters to clear it up) so I would have it post op. A water bottle to monitor Fluid intake, and a notebook or pad to keep track of things like meds, etc.

I start my pre-op diet tomorrow also. I’ll be on it for 14 days. We can do this!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
