Avoiding sugar substitutes?

Recommended Posts

Artificial sweetners trigger my Migraines, which have been notoriously difficult to control (I take 5 medications to control them and still have breakthrough pain).
For this reason, my nutritionist has told me for sweetners I use honey, maple Syrup and sugar in the raw in small quantities when I want to sweeten a drink or a recipe.
I had some cravings for sweets for a little while, but just a small portion of ice cream made me sick to my stomach and now I have an aversion to sweets.
I have been having bad migraines lately. I think its due to the Protein Shakes. I purchased clear Protein shakes with stevia for after my surgery (later today) but I am worried. What meds are you on, if you don't mind me asking? And how did you do with the Protein Drinks?

Scared but excited.

For my migraines I take Topamax, Amitriptyline, Keppra and Vitamin B2. My rescue medication is Nurtec ODT and additionally I also take Emgality injection every 28 days.

I've had a Migraine that went unbroken for over a year, so you can see why anything that can trigger one is something I want to avoid like the plague.

Apparently I was not having migraines I was having mini strokes. I learned this after my surgery when my hand wasn't working and got a CT and an MRI.

I used to take Topamax and nortryptoline.

Scared but excited.

I'm sorry that happened. I hope you don't have any residual effects from the mini strokes. I only had one once and it freaked me out.

My MRIs show lesions that may be related to migraines or may eventually become something far more serious. The one finding that I found amusing was fat in my brain. I actually said to the neurologist "so how much exercise do I need to do to get rid of THAT?".

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
