Hey...

I had my VSG on 4th April, 2022 (so nearly 4 months ago)

For the last month, I've been eating around 1100 to 1200 calories a day.

The weight is still coming off at approximately 1lb to 3lbs each week.

Including my 2 week pre-op diet I've lost 66lb so far... I've got another 45lb to go.

I'm at 1100 to 1200, as well. The weight loss has slowed down to about 1 lb. a week, but anything less than 1100 calories and I am ravenously hungry now.

Exactly the same!

I was worried about this initially - especially on reading so many accounts of people 3 months post-op only being able to eat 700 to 800 calories a day.

But my surgeon put my mind at rest on this.

And so did this guy on YouTube

back when I had surgery seven years ago, most people were eating about 600-800 calories a day at that point, but it seems like a lot of surgeons now want you higher than that.

600-800 calories? Yikes. I can't imagine.

I was a low calorie intake - barely 900 at 6 months & at goal. I eat about 1400 now. But I was not actually ever told a calorie goal. Just portion size, Protein & fluid goals & of course food choices recommendations. Plus I worked at establishing new eating behaviours & eating only what I needed not what I wanted. I just checked my calories now & again out of my own interest.

Best is to ask your dietician for guidance because we all have our own needs. Like you’ll need more if you’re very active. I’m short, pretty finely built & not very active so my caloric needs will be very different to yours. I could never have been physically able to eat more than I was while losing either.

My team keeps you at 1000 calories or less until you hit maintenance.

I'm 2 months post-op and my teams recommends 800-1000 calories a day with the intent to work up to about 1200 calories a day which is apparently the "sweet spot" for weight loss. I will be at about 1200 calories a day until I get to goal.

I was consuming 600-800 calories at that point but I am a very short person and my maintenance calories are only 1350. It's important to pay attention to the height and gender of the people giving this information out; the "correct" number is going to be very, very individual.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
