Protien powder vs Slim Fast

Recommended Posts

Ok all which would you recommend protien powder vs Slim Fast? I like the Slim Fast because it seems to fill me up more then the powder but I like the powder cause there is less calories and more protien. Which is better for after surgery?

Immediately post surgery you will probably want the one that gives you more bang for your buck in terms of Protein for a while but that doesn’t have to be powder. There are numerous brands of premade shakes you can try. I only say this if you have a hard time getting your protein down. Some people don’t have any issues (I was one of them) and can drink anything fairly easily. Honestly what will really most likely dictate this is which you can stand the taste of as post surgery for many of us our taste for sweet changes a bit and some of the shakes are just disgusting. That being said if you choose to stay on shakes long term uou will probably want to go with the lowest calorie one you like.

I'd do whatever your program says to do. Early out, we were required to drink whey Protein isolate because it's the most absorbable form of protein, and there's really no other way we could get enough protein that early on without it. Later on, as we were able to eat more and were getting most of our protein through food, we could have other kinds of Protein Shakes if we wanted (for example, protein blends) - or, if we were able to get ALL of our protein requirements met, we could give up the shakes altogether.

If you're required to have whey protein isolate early out, then neither Slimfast powder nor Slimfast ready to drink shakes are going to do it for you. The protein in them is "milk protein concentrate", plus a lot of other things.

I'm drinking the whey protein powder not and it just doesn't seem to fill me up like the pre-made shakes I was doing. I just want to be drinking what I'll be needing after surgery.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
