Pain when burping-Suggestions on burping comfortably?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 12/04 and I have a lot of pain kind of in the middle of my chest (where the band is). I seem to feel like I have to burp a lot but mostly its like silent ones. Not those good belching burps. Did anyone else feel this way after banded? I am assuming the pain is coming from the band stitches. I am hoping the pain will go away as I heal. Any suggestions on how I can burp more comfortably?

I am feeling a similar way. I think if I could burp I would feel better. I've taken Gas-X and it makes it a bit better but it doesn't go away. In addition, my stomach seems extended as if i am full of air. If anyone has advise I would greatly appreciate it.

I haven't been banded yet, so I can't speak from experience, but when I had my tubes tied they filled my abdomen up with gas to keep my other organs out of the way so they could do the surgery. The gas has to make its way out of your body cavity and it hurt in various places as it did. Since it isn't in your stomach, taking antacids didn't help - you just had to suffer through it until it was all gone. Don't know if they do that with the lapband surgery or if that is what you are experiencing - just a suggestion. Btw, my surgeon didn't tell me about the gas - I had to find out from a friend.:)

Vanessa:

I know you might think this is crude, but just let it rip! If you try to supress it you'll be more uncomfortable.

Hope the gas subsides soon for you. I've never burped like I have since I was banded. Unfortunately it continues to happen for me. I think that it's one of my "soft" signs that I'm full, however I wish it would start sooner so that the burping doesn't last for a half hour. I still wouldn't trade my band in, not even for a billion burps!

Wishing you success with your band.

Sue

I feel the same also - no pain but certainly discomfort. I feel like i need to burp, I find though, eating less helps ease the discomfort.

I felt the same way for a few days after my surgery. I still get the odd small gas bubble that won't burp out, but I've found the further I get from surgery the less it hurts and the less gas I have. Good luck

I was banded on 11/1/07 and still can't burp like I used to. My friend got banded about 2 weeks before me. What we do instead of burping is what we call a "hichaburp" it's like a hichup and a burp combined. It just comes out. It's like we have no control over it. It's kinda funny. We work together and every once in a while one of us will do it and the other will start laughing, probably drives everyone else in the office crazy...LOL. I know the feeling though that if I could just "burp" like a rip roaring burp. The pain you are feeling is more from your surgery. The swelling last sometimes for a few weeks, but as your body adjusts and the swelling goes down, you will feel more comfortable, may not still be able to burp like you used to, but the pain will subside

Thanks to all for the responses. I am feeling less pain as I try to burp now. Probably like some of you said about healing. I still can't burp really good like I feel like I want to but that sounds normal. Thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
