August surgery buddies!

Recommended Posts

After 6 and a half weeks, Yesterday I finally started the transition to soft foods. Oh how I’ve missed it. It’s so good to have porridge I don’t have to suck up through a straw. However I did do a stupid thing and had a tiny sip of Hubbys soft drink. That friggin hurt.

Oh my goodness! I miss reading this forum so much! I've been trying to really focus on myself to heal. A week after surgery around September 6th, I had this horrrrrrrible pain out of no where at 10AM. It was the front and back of my right side. My boyfriend rushed me to the ER, and it was packed!!! I was screaming in pain and throwing up absolutely nothing. All the rooms were occupied and I was #3 to be triaged. I begged my fiance to lay down on the floor in the waiting room of the ER. As soon as I laid down they brought me to a different room to treat me, Well guys I had a kidney stone! It was THE WORSE PAIN in my entire life. I had my eyes close from the pain the whole time.

TMI - Please be aware!!! Ever since surgery I was only constipated one day. Ever since then I've been having very very oily orange stool. Straight up like grease. When I had my sleeve in 2018 I was constipated every month. I can't even pass gas normally because it will leak out. My nurse and dietitian said I am not storing my fat nutrients. I'm excreting it way too fast which is not normal, I have to go in and possibly be prescribed a fat enzyme. Every time I eat I have to go super bad within 30 minutes. If i don't get it resolved i can develop IBS. I am soooo scared at this point,

Also is anyone prescribed Ursodiol to prevent gallstone problems?

I was prescribed the Ursodiol. Only have to take it for 3 months.

I am sorry you have had such a hard time. I can't imagine going through all of that when you are just trying to heal.

I'm doing okay. Still having a hard time keeping food in and stomach is upset a lot. Started losing weight again after a stall, but very slowly. I have to keep reminding myself it's only been 2 months. So take it slow and be patient. How are things for you?

Great here! Today has really been the first day in a while I've been back on the forum. That first month in a half I felt like I was struggling in all the ways just trying to adjust to all the new changes. I was feeling discouraged because I was comparing my lack of loss so much to everyone else that I think I had to step away and kinda find myself.

I think everything changed for me when I went on vacation a few weeks back... Some huge non-scale victories for me. The first major one was on the airplane... A year ago I could hardly get a seatbelt on... There was actually slack which felt really good. On a daily with my desk job, I'm pushing about 10k steps a day. On vacation, I was walking about 25k steps a day with no issues. No back problems. Not winded at all. Or trying to mentally find ways of shortening the walking distance. I was able to ride rollercoasters and rides with my kid without the worry of being turned away for not fitting. The Avatar ride at animal kingdom I was most worried about. I even went as far as looking at youtube videos to see what to expect and when my Sister in Law begged for us to go... we waited over an hour and I held my breath walking into the room where it basically restrains from your back and legs. No issues at all... I actually felt a little silly I had worried so much. I was able to actually enjoy my vacation with no worries at all, it was a massive relief.

I'm still far from where I want to be at. However, looking back at a year ago it brings tears to my eyes at how much my life has changed. I look forward to what this next year brings.

How are you doing? Any NSV for yourself? Positive changes? Any concerns you're having?

That is awesome! Rides at Universal are my goal, I can't wait to be back on them.

I feel good. I think my biggest thing is that people have actually noticed I lost weight.

I'm sorry to hear that you had such a slow start, but at least you are seeing the loss now.

I feel good. I struggle once in a while with no hunger at all, followed by feeling hungry all day. The hunger days are the worst!

Doing great! I've apparently hit that point where I feel fantastic. I haven't been on the scales for a few weeks, but my clothes are really falling off me now, I had to get a cheap interim pair of jeans so I'd have something suitable to wear outside the house. I had a couple of non-scale victories the past few days. First, I got in a 5K's worth of steps on Saturday, don't know the last time I was able to be that active. Also, we went to a college football game that day and I made it up the ramp into the stadium with very little huffing and puffing. And then today at an appointment, I fit into the chairs with arms in the waiting room! They were a little tight, but I FIT!

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Very good, Iast week was my bday had to Celebrate it with coconut Water while everybody was having mojitos, sangrias, beer, rum, etc. My friends, family and coworkers went out of the way to get me some kind of "cake" that I can eat (no flour, no sugar) they did a great job find it alternatives, even though i could only eat a little bit.

A non scale victory: dropped 2 sizes of clothing, right now buying panties and bra online, cuz everything is to big. My doctor says everything is fine, have an appointment with him on November I´m expected to lose 12lbs by that time.

Do any of you have a recommendation of a youtube channel/app for low impact home exercise, still don´t feel comfortable going to the gym, and I don´t have a buddy or family in the city where I work to go with.

Doing well, 8 weeks tomorrow. Lost about 25 pounds, no problems of any kind other than fatigue and lack of energy, but that suddenly changed about a week ago and feel great now.

Doing well. Down 40 lbs already. From highest weight. 30 from day of surgery. Almost 2 months out. Feeling better every day! NSV yesterday, went to a football game and very comfortably fit in the seat. I was nervous the whole ride there!

Libby- I struggled with food staying down. I had to stay on liquid and slops longer. The most I can have in one sitting is 150ml. This helps. I’m on soft diets still. I also am on medication I take before I eat to help.

shorty- that is fantastic news. Glad you got to enjoy your time

suzi- I have to set a time every 2.5 hrs to eat. Otherwise I don’t eat.

denise- that is great news about your walking. I am managing to walk without getting worn out or feeling sore back.

kiky- try senior exercises. They are low impact low mobility. I use to do these a few months before surgery.

myself- my weight stalled for almost a month. But with being sick and all I wasn’t able to exercise or eat well. This last week the weight has managed to start to fall off slowly. I have lost 33pds since surgery. I’m also keeping a diary on my sleeve journey with all the food and Protein, calories. As mentioned above, we have worked out my stomach intake is actually smaller then the gastric recommendation. I can tolerate 150mls. So I have to fit in another 2 feeds per day. Still on soft diets and meal prep every Sunday evening. I’m also walking an hour a day without back or feet pain. But sitting in my office for 6-7 hrs a day is hurting my buttocks.

I'm losing so slow...like a pound a week. I also messed up and ate too much this weekend at a restaurant. My throat felt like it was on fire and I had the foamies.

All in all, I've had a relatively easy time after surgery. I'm still so happy I had this surgery. I'm still learning lessons and taking it a day at a time.

How have you been@SuziDavis?

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
