Hi, all new here. I was sent by my PCP to have a revision to my RNY. The surgeon suggests candy Cane Revision and I asked will that help me lose weight? This jackass tells me some but stop eating so much! My 14 yr old said she wants what she is supposed to and no junk foods. He looked me dead in my face and said I doubt that. I am 268 lbs and 5'2. My Doctor along with the original Surgeon who retired and sent me to him are really PO'd about this. Should I ask for a second opinion or seek help elsewhere. I have no gastric issues this is what they are seeing due to tests. Thank You

Sounds like you need to consult with a different surgeon.

I have just had candy cane revision. When did you have the original surgery? Have you had a gastroscopy? They can't just guess this!

Mine was in 2000, and I had alot of vomiting post op for years. I have had some regain in the last five years and what I thought was reflux. Turns out after a gastroscopy they found candy cane which explained the years of vomiting! Anyhoooo, decided to have the RNY revision and when he got in there found I had a fisutla around 10mm which was allowing food into the remnant stomach and some of the limb lengths were incorrect. I ended up having to have it fully open as there was alot of scar tissue and when he got in there found that large parts of my intestines were twisted! So not the keyhole surgery I had expected, and a longer recovery but all is good now.

I had the operation o the 10th February 2022, and I am almost 10 weeks post op I have lost 35lbs which I am very happy with. I dont have as much to loose as the first operation, but it feels just like it did all those years ago, and the hunger is gone.

Hi, I am so glad that it all worked out for you. He called me yesterday evening after my Doctor called him and ripped him one. I so love my PCP. He explained that since I had lost over 69 lbs on my own that other than fixing the candy cane. he will not fix anything else i am having gastro something and the candy cane fixed. He said he is tired of people coming into his office and wanting a quick fix. I told him he is in the wrong professional area because he has no bedside manner and I will be seeking another surgeon to do it for me.

I have been diagnosed with candy Cane Syndrome. This is so miserable and the past 5 years of constant nausea, throwing up and not being able to lose weight has been so unbelievably difficult and hard to understand how i couldn’t be a bean pole since i can barely eat. Well, in doing research that is one of the factors that is a bad side affect of the syndrome, “no weight loss.” I had the Roux-n-y five (5) years ago. In this time the pandemic hit, my Bariatric surgeon was killed, i was hit with covid 2 times and long-haul covid. Plus, broken wrist, and other medical emergencies. I wrote this because some may wonder why or how i went 5 years so nauseated all the time and throwing up. Well, i have Lupus plus other severe autoimmune diseases. I did go to my bariatric office and was brushed off. My Mom found me a second opinion Bariatric doctor and guess what?? Yep, Candy Cane Syndrome. So, my EKG and blood work will be Wednesday then all the paperwork will be sent to Insurance for approval.
I had my husband go with me to my new bariatric doctor because my husband is my advocate. He knows i do not over-eat. Everything i try to eat makes me sick. Sometimes we have to be our biggest advocates for our health. I knew something was wrong. I just couldn’t get the former Bariatric office to take the extra step to care. And unfortunately my caring surgeon had died. I’m praying the Candy Cane surgery will fix my constant nausea, and my weightloss will start again

Hi everybody! I just had surgery today for candycane syndrome and I was shocked at how much better the recovery feels vs the RNY I had 3yrs and 4days ago. Yeah, nearly had the fix surgery on the Surgiversary lol.

My question is, what kind of initial diet did your doctors put you on for the first few months? I'm Clear Liquids moving into Protein Shakes while I am here in the hospital, but I am curious for after.

I lost around 80lbs before I started gaining from this. Then, went from 135 to 154 literally in the blink of an eye. It's crazy. My phantom limb was huge! My stoma/fistula was over 10mm wide. It's crazy. How did the original dr not see it??

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
