Lactose intolerant? What to drink?

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I had no idea I was lactose intolerant until recently and bought tons and tons of cases of Atkins drinks only to find they give me a tummy ache. So any suggestions on how to do a slim fast type diet w/ out milk?

Hi there, My doctor uses Optifast and since I am very lactose intolerant, I can't use it. For awhile, I used Lactaid with it but after awhile, the Lactaid stopped working. Now I am using Unjury which is lactose free. You can find it on Welcome to the UNJURY Homepage. Hope that helps.

Regards,

Alfie

I really don't know what the Slim-Fast diet is, but if you need a milk substitute, soy milk is lactose & cholesterol free. You can find it in plain, vanilla, and chocolate at most stores.

I've been lactose intolerant for years... I even would eat cheese/milk products when I needed to get regular...if you know what I mean.

Now, it doesn't work anymore. Since being banded I am no longer lactose intolerant...weird, huh?

if you can find it they do make a Slimfast lactose free, its called easy to digest. Or what I did was mix CIB with lactate milk and add in some sf instant pudding mix to jazz up it up

soy milk is another option

a couple weeks after my surgery I was able to move back to regular fat-free milk. thank goodness

There is a wonderful product out that I am using called Muscle Milk light - they are Protein shakes but lactose free and have 20g of Protein and 150 calories - they are AWESOME!! You can find them at GNC but they are pretty expensive I found them on Bodybuilding.com

This is what I am using from my pre-op and it's amazing - much better than slimfast....

I drink Lactaid milk. I think it tastes much better than regular milk and never upsets my stomach like regular milk can. So, if you need actual milk for something try looking for Lactaid milk. It's not the cheapest milk around but it's better than what happens when you drink real milk!!!!!!!!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
