having an issue with cravings

Recommended Posts

i have been craving chicken nuggets for weeks. im currently almost 4 weeks from my surgery date and right now i can have a lot of different things but still no meat. I know this is technically cheating but would I be able to have a vegan chicken nugget (cooked in air fryer)? Im allowed toast (so technically bread crumbs) and I can have cooked veggies.... so basically I would be able to right? I am also allowed sauces. Its almost my "time" of the month so my cravings are STRONG :(

First of all, cravings are completely normal. We all want certain foods at certain times because of their taste, nostalgia, or other emotional drivers. That being said, if you feel compelled to "cheat" to satisfy a craving, you might want to sit down and really think about WHY you are craving that food? What emotions, situations, or other factors are driving those feelings and how can you cope with them other than giving in or finding a substitute? The reality is, your surgeon has specific post-op phases/stages for a reason - I promise its not arbitrary. And deviating from it could cause any number of complications, discomfort, etc. This is the really hard part of weight loss surgery - learning to heal our relationship with food so that we are free from diets and cheat meals and trying to rationalize our food choices. If necessary, get a bariatric/eating disorder counselor to help you work through some of this stuff and gain new coping mechanisms. But, long answer short, no you should not given in. Not only because it could make you sick, but because it will perpetuate the cycle you had surgery to break. We are rooting for you.

Have the chicken nugget but chew chew chew until it's mush almost liquid in your mouth. They are actually high in Protein and that's what I ate in the early days. You will find you can probably only eat 1 maybe 2 at the most

No meat? ? I was eating lots of meat & fish from week 3 but plans are different & it is best to follow yours.

It is ultimately your choice but I do agree with @Sleeve me alone!’s advice to reflect upon what is driving this craving.

chicken is the meat that many seem to struggle with & find they can’t tolerate to begin so if you decide to go ahead be careful.

I feel like I've finally gotten past the biggest hurdle. Surgery date is September 6th, the day after Labor Day, and yesterday I got my insurance approval letter. I've followed everything they've told me to do, and I've even lost 30 lbs on my own since hubby had to change his diet for diabetes. No worries now about having to do 4 weeks of the liver shrinking diet instead of 2. On my initial visit, if I had gained just 5lbs I would have had to do 4 weeks. It's getting closer. Just 2 more months to wait.

I am looking for people to connect with that are 4-5 years out. Many of the support sights I go to are all newbies. And while I enjoyed that when i first had my surgery and found it useful, I am looking to exchange ideas with folks that are out a few years. I am slowly gaining weight back and losing my excitement. I don't want that!

How do you stay focused? I'm struggling a bit the past three days.  All I want is sweets and carbs.  I have no clue what changed but for some reason I'm craving hard.  I'm literally dreaming about food and when I wake up, I'm thinking about my next meal.  I'm not "hungry" but so munchy.  I'm trying to stay focused, busy, exercise and the likes but this looking struggle is getting to be so hard.  I meet with my nutritionist tomorrow and I'm so hopeful she has some advice.  My protein intake is great, liquids on point, even throwing in some raw veggies and berries to curb the sweet/carb craving.  Thoughts?
