My Rant before a break (Strong Words so enter at own Risk)

Recommended Posts

I have decided to start this thread and write this post because I have been feeling strongly about a couple of things and I feel a need to let it out.

First let me start by saying that I have been spending less time on LBT lately not because I am disapointed with the direction it is going but rather because as a male I find it to be dominated by the fairer sex and this leads me to my first issue.

I am frustrated with the rules of engangement here at LBT, I think they are Bul***it. The rules here are rules that only females could come up with and here is what I mean. It's okay to go on and on about a person as long as you preface your remarks with statements like "There is a person on LBT who I really like who has been attacked by others who I don't want to name" Everybody knows who the people are that are being discussed but as long as you don't say their names it's fine. This reminds of my early teen years when the girls in my class would play that game the sole purpose was to define who could be freinds with who.

I have no problem if someone thinks I'm an ass and tells me so. It's simple if I think your an ass***le then I will say "I think your an Ass**le" you can say back go F**k yourself your the ass**le.

Instead I read " This person is a really really great person who just wants peace on earth and these evil people (I won't say their names because I am a good person too just like you know who) are being terrible in how they attack her every word. I say bull**it, If you have something to say about someone have the guts to say it and the courage to name names.

The next issue I want to rant about is the one I am most passionatte about. There has been a lot of discussion about people making other people feel bad about their weight loss. As people who have decided to use the band as a weight loss tool we have leveled the playing field for the first time. This has made it possible for us for the first time to win our long battles with obesity. This does not however negate years and years of battling obesity and the scars that come with those battles. In my previouse life I was always in one of three states and these were 1. Losing weight 2. Gaining back weight 3. Obese ashamed that I had gained all the weight and more back and waiting for the next scheme to make me skinny again but had given up for now.

Depending on what state I was in my reaction to the weight loss of others was drastically impacted. When I was losing I was eager to hear and share in the weight loss advice of others. When I was in state 2 I was happy for those individuals who were in state 1 but sometimes I just wanted to tell them to shut up, I was afraid to because that was the first sign that I had moved to state 3 and was not going back to state 1. State 3 meant that I knew that everyone who was losing weight was a fool to believe that they wouldn't eventualy gain all their weight back and more. My only hope is that they would soon shut the F**k up and realize that they were doomed for failure.

The band has leveled the playing field but it hasn't removed those old biasis for any of us. What this means is when someone starts to give advice about weight loss often our first response is to want to say oh shut the f**k up soon you will be fat again. Our ability to suceed has been greatly increased but our moods still, at times, make us feel guilt when we hear about the sucess of others. (deep breath) so here is my point, there have been a number of threads from a number of people about other members of LBT not being completely supportive of the wins of others. My point is, it's okay, we should understand better than anyone what motivates this behavior. Why should it matter any way, I couldn't give a flying F**k if anyone disaproves of my weight loss. I am a few days away from my 2 year bandiversary and I have lost just over 120 pounds. I work out 5 days a week and I eat too fuc**ng much ice cream. But I am happy and certain that I will lose another 30-40 pounds by this time next year. If I only lose 20 no big deal I will lose the rest the next year. If anyone disagrees go F**k yourself!!!

Merry Christmas Mother F**kers :) :) ;)

So...why don't you just jump into the fray with the rest of us? Sounds like you can hold your own to me! The "tell-it-like-it-is-testosterone-brigade" could be just the thing needed on some threads! :biggrin1:

Your first rant is the reason I went into the I.T. field a long time ago - I so prefer to work with guys who will say it as they see it, and then move on. I have called women out before for the ambiguous "this person..." remarks - what a freakin cop-out. If you can't give the whole story then don't say anything at all. People should have the ability to defend themselves, and calling folks out by name will put a stop to the crap quickly.

And to add to your rant what about those people who jump in after someone gets nasty just to add support, "Yeah what SHE said!" Sheesh...

Man, there is a guy on this board who has really pissed me off because he is in state 1 and I am In state $#@%!@% and he has lost 120 lbs and I havn't but I am not mentioning any names. Well he can go F_ck himself for being such an asshole and losing more weight than me. How dare he? Anyway, he still has a fat head even if we do share the same love of pigging out on icecream everynight. Ane he ain't all that anyway, so there.

I have very, very few women friends, like 1 or 2. This is part of why.

I guess the anonymous posts are the virtual world's equivalent to saying something just loud enough for the target to overhear. You know? It gives you just enough slack that you can still claim you weren't talking about them, whomever them is.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
