After surgery am I doomed to a life of throwing up???

Recommended Posts

I’ve only thrown up once in 3 months. The chicken breast I had was too dry. I’ve been able to eat pretty much anything. Just eat a tiny bit of anything you try for the first time. When I eat out at a restaurant, the food lasts for several meals. It hasn’t been bad at all. It’s nice being full from a small meal.

It is scary and the first week is the worst. Once you’re into the regular food stage, it gets pretty easy and you forget about the unpleasant first days.

6 months post-op and I have only thrown up once or twice and that was in the early months. I ate something disagreeable at the time but can easily tolerate it now. It's uncommon to constantly throw up as other's have said in this thread.

I was scared too cause of all the things I read on the net before my surgery. Now, after an easy recovery, and a great experience so far, I wish I did it years ago.

I have my surgery scheduled for 3/2... The anxiousness is keeping me up at night wondering if I am making the right decision.. or am I setting myself up to get sick for the rest of my life. I have been doing my research and reading posts from many different support groups all over the internet and there are some horrific stories out there are people that can't get food down.. or they throw up every time they eat meat ETC.. for me I could deal with it coming out the other end not to be graphic but the thought of vomiting for the rest of my life has me absolutely petrified and questioning should I take the chance.. Please share your experience from having gastric bypass... I understand the first couple weeks will be rough.. And I can imagine that others have struggled because they possibly didn't follow what their doctor recommends.. But to think you do all the right things and you still get sick has me worried... Whatever insight you can share and tips you can share to possibly avoid this with a greatly appreciated.. thanks in advance God bless! Girl I'm literally in the same boat, I'm terrified. My surgery is on Monday. I am on the verge of a panic attack and feel like every possible thing could go wrong. I'm really trying to think positively and I know the cons of long terms obesity are just as severe but let's face it, it's a huge scary change. I am praying for you and sending so many good vibes and well wishes for your journey. At the end of the day I know all we can do is endure and conquer these obstacles.

P.s. I'm also in Tampa. I'm working with Advent health's program.

He's stern byt kind and listens to all my concerns. I chose the program because it's highly praised. Trying to remember that these surgeons are amazing at what they do and I'll be in good hands haha but fear is normal.

No, I always recommend the bypass over the sleeve because there is less gastric reflux. Also, if you follow the surgeons/dietitians instructions you will do great. I get nauseous if I eat meat without chewing thoroughly or eat too much. Or if I eat too much sugar/fat I’ll get an upset tummy. But the meat thing goes away the longer you are post surgery. I had a revision (weight gain totally my fault) and I am 5 months post op and can eat tender chicken, steak, and feel great. Just even as you can eat more don’t try to eat past being full and comfortable :)

I hear this a lot. I've been a vegetarian for 6 years about and don't plan on changing that. I'm wondering how tofu and other plant based Proteins will sit with me post bypass.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
