Hi..... today marks one week post op. Started the journey last August and my surgery was 1/27. My biggest (and most unexpected) hurdle has been NO DESIRE TO EAT. NOT EVEN A LITTLE. I called my doctors office on Tuesday bc I was extremely weak and not sleeping. Went in on yesterday and I had dropped 14.3lbs (starting weight was 264.3 and I was 250 at weigh in) Doc told me to drink for juice or something with sugar in it and switch to ensure drinks. He's worried about me getting malnourished. Said we will get back on track with the diet once I'm feeling better. I did that but the only mistake I made was sipping through a straw AND drinking while eating Soup. HUGE MISTAKE. I won't do that again. Today is better though. Has anyone else gone through this as far as NEVER being hungry?

Hi,

Not sure which procedure you got done- I had the sleeve one, and I can tell you, 2 weeks post-op, I'm still not hungry. During Phase 1, I made sure to sip sip sip all day. What helped me a lot was diluted apple juice. I would definitely not recommend drinking with a straw and also drinking while eating. Poor thing. I hope you feel better soon. Congrats on the 14.3 lbs loss! That's awesome! Take it one day a time, and sip sip sip ♥ Good Luck!

I had gastric sleeve done. I thought I was crazy when I just didn't and still really don't get hungry. Dr said no big deal and it's normal. It may be normal but it still feels odd

Yes, I wasn't hungry for a long time after WLS and still rarely actually get "hungry" other than bored. Remember: no straws, and no drinking while eating. Sip, sip, sip all day long Soup, brother, gatorade, etc.

losing one's hunger is pretty common. Doesn't happen to everyone, but it seems to happen to the majority of us. It usually comes back sometime during the first year. Mine came back at five months out.

Yea I didn’t feel hungry either. I did want to eat out of boredom though and wish I didn’t. You will probably have to set alarms and make yourself eat a few times a day at least. I am not sure which problem would be worse. Lol

I didn't feel any hunger for a long time. I had meals and Snacks because my plan told me too, not so much because I wanted to eat. About 4ish months out, I started to get a "feeling" when it was time to eat (i.e., meal or snack time) but it was and remains very different than the gnawing hunger I used to get. Unlike pre-surgery me, it is easily satiated and I can typically ignore it if I really want to or if I am busy. Honestly, my biggest drive for eating when I get "post surgery hungry" is to get in my calories for the day. I really can't afford to miss a meal or snack, or I won't make my calorie goals for the day. So that feeling is good for reminding me to get some calories in.

I hope this sticks around... I can work with this new version of hunger.

honestly, I wished mine had never come back. It was so much easier to stay on track when I was never hungry and really didn't give a flip about food! Things got a lot harder once my hunger came back at five months out.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
