My experience… sleeved on 1/22/22

Recommended Posts

Hi all! Sorry it’s been a few days!

I’m not on the puréed stage of eating. Taking it super slow. I added some cottage cheese to my diet today. Ive been instructed to just add one food at a time.

I couldn’t eat much. Just a few bites- my book from my surgery says I should be at 1/4-1/2 a cup at a time for food. I’m definitely no where near that.

It’s officially my weekend. I only have 2 more overnights before I switch to my new work schedule :)

I got sleeved on 12/9 and they found a hernia, which they say 80% have. Now I am receiving HUGE bills when I was told $9800 was a total cost. Each bill is worse and adds things never discussed or informed of.

I’m sorry you’re going thru that. However this thread is about the recovery process from being sleeved and adapting thru the food stages. Medical costs are not the place for this forum- everyone has a different situation for how their medical bills are covered. Personally I’m in the US and lucky enough to have met the requirements to have some coverage via my insurance I have thru my employment. I know there are other threads that speak to costs.

First issue! I am about 10 days post op and I drank my Protein Shake too fast today. I am absolutely miserable!! Stomach ache and cramps are sooo bad. I called my doctors office and they told me I am ok and that it’s my new stomach not liking how fast I consumed the Protein shake. This is awful! LESSON LEARNED!! Lol

Hey all- sorry I have been MIA. I’m not gonna lie- I went to a dark place. This thread seemed to change from me well us sharing our experiences post sleeve to people complaining about the financial side or honesty telling me I was wrong and other pointed comments in my inbox.

So I took a break. But there were quite a few of you who are so supportive and I’m sorry I ghosted.

Here’s my update I’m almost two months (roughly a week shy of 2 months) out and down a total of 36 pounds. I go to the gym 3-5 times a week and do quite a bit of weight lifting and cardio. I feel so much better. I’m down two pant sizes which is fantastic.

Lately I’ve been having odd soreness in my lower back and shoulders so I contacted my nurse- she thought it was that my body was still holding it’s self like I had those 36 pounds still. She recommended I get a massage- hey doctors orders I’m not gonna say no to a little pampering. But honestly it worked. No longer am I sore in odd places.

I hope you all are doing well on your journey and remember every body is different with the loss. Listen to yours and your care team.

So i had pain too saw a chiropractor and i felt like a new human! My husband has been great at giving me massages so happy in that department but consider seeing a chiropractor that helped me the most. Even my hips and shoulders needed adjusted. Good luck!! Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
