Heading to the hospital at 5 AM tomorrow for my Sleeve - a bit nervous the preop nurse said since I am allergic to all pain meds they aren’t sure what they will give me. Bringing liquid Tylenol just to be safe! Here we go December surgery family!

Hopefully your pain won’t be bad. Walk around and move your arms as much as you can afterwards to get the gas out. I had lidocaine for pain, but I asked for it to be taken away the next day because I think it was making me feel nauseous. After that I had Tylenol for a couple of days. The liquid Tylenol they had at the hospital was super nasty tasting, so I stopped the tylenol too. All the best to you on your surgery tomorrow.

Hello all of my December mates,

This is my first post. I am eight days post-op. Hence, I had my surgery on 12/15/21.

Today, I was able to have soft food for the first time since surgery date. Guess what? I ate an egg! It was a most delicious and glorious scrambled egg. Probably the best one I have ever eaten.

Looking forward to the next one.

Wishing you all the very best luck on your surgeries and subsequent recoveries.

Question y’all I’m like 16 days post op I’m still on liquids but does anyone get a sharp pain in their upper abdomen when they sip? It doesn’t happen all the time and only lasts like 3 seconds but my god it hurts so bad lol

Occasionally I have a heavy/tight feeling there there - almost feels like trapped gas to me but I can’t burp it out. Finding gas-x and smaller sips helping so far.

My surgery was 12/13. I am still on liquids until next Monday. I was initially king of bummed that I would be on liquids through the holidays but now I see the blessing it has been. My office has chocolate everywhere. We had chicken wings for lunch and I came home to a house smelling of sugar Cookies from my family baking all day. If I was not confined to liquids, I know there would be a lot of “tastes” that would add up to a lot of calories.

Had my preop appointment today and I’m super SAD they aren’t allowing any visitors in before or after surgery. My surgery is scheduled for Tuesday and I’m more nervous than ever knowing my husband won’t be there when I finally wake up.

Newbie here. Post op. 12/7/21 surgery date. Feeling good overall. I did have a question about birth control after. I started my period overnight and I haven’t yet gotten back on the progestin only pill ( was on that for years due to my high blood pressure which has since fallen back into normal range woo boo) but I’m wondering if okay to restart? My doc appt to discuss my bp readings isn’t until 1/6 so not sure if I should just wait or not. Periods have always been whacky and annoying for me.

I got to take Tylenol which is hard with very little Water. The dry mouth was terrible and the pain today is horrific. My surgeon came in I told him I had buyer remorse he said everyone does until they start dropping weight and feeling better good luck everyone

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
