Hey. I’m on my first week of liquid diet. My wife had her sleeve done a year ago and she had the same cravings you do. Often times I would see her chew on some food that the kids didn’t finish and then spit it out in the garbage instead of swallowing it.

That’s a good idea!! I only have to wait till Monday until I can move onto puréed foods. How are you finding recovery?

I would be VERY cautious using this technique. It is considered disordered eating and may well be the jumping off point for a more serious eating disorder (note, I am NOT saying your wife has an eating disorder, just that this behavior is considered disordered eating and it can LEAD to an eating disorder).

My suggestion is just to buck up...seriously, just gut it out. The liquid diet is hard, but it is finite. You know it is going to end. If you try to cheat around the restrictions on this diet, it is a pretty slippery slope to cheating around the restriction your pouch/sleeve is going to create (and there are lots of ways to cheat that).

Recovery is going well. The first couple of days SUCKED. It’s a lot better now though.

honestly the hardest part for me now is the fact that I love to cook. Not much delight in whipping up a batch of crystal light lol.

Sorry I am new to this app and don’t know how to reply to separate comments 🤣. The first two days were so awful! But I am 10 days post op and feel normal now!! Doesn’t even feel like I had surgery.

I’m finding the cooking foods for my son the hardest, as it just all smells to good! It will be worth it in the end. How much did your wife lose?

I also am new to this group. I'm 10 days post op and I'm a little confused bcuz today I had my 10 day check-up and I admitted to my dietitian that I had a couple of bites of food over the last few days. I tasted greens and bake chicken. I tried baked potato Soup. I have never gotten nausea or threw up. But my mind just says try some. I'm not condoning going against your Dr. Orders but I already did. I don't feel like I failed I just think I needed to see what it might feel like to try an digest something. I'm sure many of you were curious as well. Long story short I'm listening to my Dr as well as my own body.

The chewing & spitting of food is a slippery slope. I know people say they do it but it doesn’t make it the best choice. The liquid diet is only two weeks before surgery. Besides helping you lose weight & shrink your liver to help during your surgery, it helps to start breaking your cravings/dependency on caffeine, sugar, carbs, etc. It helps you start to think about why you eat & why you make certain food choices. It’s not easy, but you have months of weight loss ahead of you which will throw many eating & food related challenges at you. You can do it.

The post surgery staged diet is needed because you’ve just had surgery to alter your digestive system. Your poor tummy is being held together by a lot stitches & staples. It’s there so you don’t strain or stress your tummy or pop stitches. You may not have felt nausea or vomited @edwardstylez but you could have been just lucky. We all heal at different rates & your tummy may have been able to cope but others may not. Please be careful.

Good luck.

Hi everyone on my second week of the liquid diet and really struggling and craving to chew some food!!! Any tips or advice?

The closest to chewing on the full liquid diet are probably the sugar-free ice pops, Jello & pudding. I am also allowed farina that is thinned out with milk and sugar-free yogurt. Have those foods helped at all, if you are allowed them? The chewy calcium citrate supplements might give you enough of the sensation to help.

I know, I totally understand and just counting down the days until I can move to the soft food stage!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
