Stressing about a shut down

Recommended Posts

Not gonna lie- I’ve been chasing this surgery since 2018. I’m finally scheduled for August 6th, but I’m so nervous that this uptick in Covid cases is going to shut the hospitals down again. Last October I needed spine surgery badly, I was in so much pain. But being in pain didn’t make it life threatening, and so they wouldn’t bring me into the hospital to do it. They kept me on high doses of percocet until MARCH.

I’m just really crossing my fingers that they’re able to keep things under better control and they don’t have to shut everybody down again. Every time I see someone in public wearing a mask down under their nose I just 🤬

Hang in there. I’m scheduled for August also, and the Delta uptick has me worried too. I keep thinking that we’ve gone to far to go back. We are very determined and persistence will win in the end.

That sounds like an awful experience you had before! No wonder you have lingering anxiety. The good news is that your surgery is coming up very quickly, and I don't think that even the most strict states are going to be ready to do shutdowns again that soon. Of course I don't really know anything, it just doesn't seem like it happened that fast before. That day will be here before you know it!

Oh man I had the same fears last November- cases were going back up and I was just like for Pete’s sake can I sneak in before we get shut down again! The good news is that the hospitals are much better equipped to deal with this now, and they won’t shut down electives unless they truly have to since it hurts the hospital so much financially. The hospitals have more experience than they wanted to get at managing this so your odds are better that it will all go through!

I"m worried too but I agree that hospitals are better equipped to handle things now. I'm thinking worse case scenario they may go back to no visitors or something.

No visitors when I had my surgery- I’m actually pretty glad for it. My husband dropped me off at the door and picked me up the next day. I wouldn’t have been great company that day anyway. Just walking and sipping.

Probably best not to worry about things you cannot control. Focus on you and making good choices in the pre-op period to prepare yourself for surgery, no matter how long the pre-op period is.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
