Severe left side pain directly after surgery?

Recommended Posts

So my wife had VSG surgery yesterday 7/14/21 afternoon. She immediately had excruciating pain (on the left side incision where the stomach was pulled out) when getting out of or in the hospital bed, sitting on the toilet or standing up. Pain so bad she is screaming and crying from it. Can't even scoot back into a chair without crying out in pain.

We are still in the hospital, she is on as much pain meds as they can give her so she is knocked out most of the time. The nurse and surgeon say this pain is completely normal.

I have read alot of the groups where many say VSG surgery is less painful than a C-section. My wife has been through 2 C-sections and a emergency appendectomy with no problem at all, she has a pretty high pain tolerance.

I say all this to ask is this normal? Anyone here have this pain level immediately?

Yes, I had/have the same thing. I woke up in the recovery room and that was the first thing I was saying. It has gotten better (I am on day three).

My doctor says it's normal and will resolve in a few days.

We are about on the same timeline. My wife's pain is somewhat better as well.

I am so glad she is feeling better. Looking forward to seeing/hearing about her journey.

I had surgery on the same day . The pain is in the same exact spot and in the mornings are the worse assuming it’s cause I haven’t moved all night . I’m having my first Pre-op appointment tomorrow and planned on asking if this level of pain is normal from that incision but I guess it is . The incision is super sore and that exact location feels super hard when I touch around it . I hope it goes away soon because it’s affecting literally everything move i make .Especially when caring for my 4 year old 😞

I had the bypass on June 14th. Ohhh I know exactly how she feels though. I was in so much pain all I could do is cry but yet that hurt too lol I however don't deal with pain well. I was miserable till probably almost 3 weeks. Walking a little bit each day really did help though..well in a weird way lol it hurt yet felt good lol. I so had nooo support from my husband so trust me just be patient with her and be as helpful as possible. Worrying about her and posting this is how it should be. That's awesome of you! Just help her as much as possible. Make her foods etc well when she starts pureed and stuff. Good luck to you both:)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
